NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Our Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking a motivated professional individual to join our Syria Response Office’s operations. The ideal candidate must have a university degree in Finance or any related field, with previous experience in Finance for an international organization in an emergency or recovery setting.

We are particularly looking for an individual to ensure proper day to day implementation of the finance responsibilities and implement NRC’s financial system and procedures. The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills leadership skills. This position will not entail management responsibility of staff, but will be the focal point with the implementing partners for finance related issues. Under certain circumstances the job may entail management responsibility for a very limited number of staff at assistant level.

Generic responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines and standards
  • Ensure compliance with support function strategy, tools, handbooks, guidelines and standards
  • Specific technical responsibility for implementation of the support function
  • Specific technical responsibility for the quality control and monitoring of support function activities
  • Provide specific technical support and capacity building towards support staff
  • Provide specific technical analysis and feedback to NRC representatives in coordination forums
  • Monitor the progress of team activities and ensure they are implemented according to standards
  • Implement complex systems and procedures in line with NRC policies, SOP’s and handbooks
  • Assess, promote and document ideas for technical improvement and further program development options

Specific responsibilities

  1. Lead on timely records on NRC Accounting System (Agresso)
  2. Ensure proper filing of Finance documentation.
  3.  Build the financial Capacity building of partner NGOs.
  4. Ensuring accountancy records are booked on a timely manner.
  5.  Reviews and posts accounting entries into accounting software (Agresso).  Ensures there is proper supporting documentation for all payments and other accounting entries.
  6. Processes incoming invoices and vouchers, ensuring that backup is complete, accurate and fully approved, coding on all vouchers for valid account/Project Code/Donor Code and vouchers are entered into bank and cash books and keep it updated on daily basis.
  7. Conduct regular visits to Local Partners (NGOs) in their offices in Amman to do capacity building in Finance (reporting, documentation, donor regulation, etc.), spot check in finance documentation, Audit/supervision of Financial reports from Local Partners and validation of them.
  8.  Perform Finance Appraisal of potential new local partners
  9. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
