Maroua Field Office is operating in an environment characterized by a number of programmatic and security challenges including an influx of Nigerians fleeing attacks by Nigeria-based Boko Haram as a result a drastic increase in the number of Nigerian refugees (more than 60,000 in Minawao Camp in Far North and 15,000 outside the camp) and around 181,000 internal displaced populations; cholera epidemics, acute malnutrition, floods, measles, and poliomyelitis. These vulnerable populations needed very close support in all areas of UNICEF interventions. A greater number of campaigns and field visits have been planned and implementation will be carried out.
