The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Raise awareness and understanding of staff Care components among staff and line managers    
  2. Assess Stress Factors in the workplace through data collection and discussions with different teams  
  3. Plan, develop and implement stress management and resilience building trainings to all NRC staff - Conduct Pre and Post assessments as needed 
  4. Advise Line managers on Conflict Resolution and addressing problems to improve working atmosphere
  5. Provide Psychosocial Support sessions for NRC staff upon need and request
  6. Organize Group counselling sessions for all staff in the different fields 
  7. Provide comprehensive “Training of Trainers” package on Stress Management for Staff Care focal points in NRC
  8. Work closely with Staff Care Coordinator and focal points to develop capacities and plan way forward
  9. Report on implementation of activities and provide final recommendations and analysis of the findings for NRC Management

Critical interfaces

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Daily work with HR/Admin Manager, Staff Care Coordinator and focal points
  • Work closely with Line managers and NRC Country Management Group
  • Discussions with Regional and Global Staff Care advisers on Staff Care in NRC

 

COMPETENCIES:

Professional competencies

  • Masters’ degree in clinical psychology with license to provide psychosocial counseling or psychotherapy;
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant practical experience in providing psychosocial support and group/individual counseling;
  • Previous experience/Familiarity within the humanitarian section
  • Excellent Organizational and time management skills
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic languages
  • Excellent reporting and analysis skills
  • Strong training presentation and facilitation skills

DURATION OF THE CONSULTANCY:

The consultancy period will be extended for 3 months’ from date of hiring. However, due to NRC operational needs and plans, the consultant might be requested to work for full 2 months in a row (preferably October and November 2017), and then resume the third consultancy month during January or February 2018. Final plan and dates shall be discussed and subject to change as per NRC needs.
