Background Information - Job-specific

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS DFS Senior Programme Manager and the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Systems Development Assistant will be responsible for providing development support for content management systems, web design, user interface and other ICT related functions. The incumbent will be expected to promote a collaborative, client-oriented approach consistent with UNOPS rules and regulations.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Assist on the definition, design and development of websites and user interfaces.
  • Support on the migration of existing sites and applications.
  • Assist in the development and adaption of modules/plugins/addons of open source CMS such as Drupal, as required.
  • Actively contribute ideas and approaches during design sessions with other developers.
  • Assist in adapting mock-ups themes or design of new ones with other developers and/or clients.
  • Support the implementation of web applications ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and usability of systems by assisting to adhering to established and evolving architectural standards.
  • Contribute to maintenance of tools for tracking emerging technologies and solutions for improvements.
  • Support in the development of new innovative concepts that could be implemented in addition to or as a replacement for existing solutions.
  • Assist in performing unit testing and with the validation of functional requirements integration.
  • Create user and project documentation.
  • Provide end user training, as required
  • Assist in the development of mobile applications using hybrid frameworks.
  • Contribute to the tracking and reporting times and efforts invested on the assigned tasks.
  • Perform other ICT related duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: 
  • Secondary education or high school diploma is required. Technical/Professional Diploma in information technology, computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field will be considered with the appropriate relevant years of experience. 
  • A University degree in information technology , computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field is an asset.
Experience: 
Required
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in information, communication, and technology as well as assisting in open source content management systems development.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience required with open source CMS development such as Drupal

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in code writing in PHP
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in HTML and CSS design
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience  in Java Script
Desirable
  • Knowledge of web design, supporting in creating new mock-ups and implementing them on HTML and CSS themes. Understanding of Apache Cordova, MySQL and Linux system administration.

Language:
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is highly desirable.
