Child Protection Specialist (MRM CAAC), P-4, PD, NYHQ # 43532

The Child Protection Specialist (Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism on Children and Armed Conflict -MRM CAAC) develops and supports the work of the office in the implementation of the MRM CAAC policy development, programme guidance and provision of technical support to regional and country teams.  In particular, the Specialist contributes in-depth technical knowledge and guidance on good practice around the ethical, safe, and secure monitoring of child rights violations in situations of armed conflict.

How can you make a difference? 
The Child Protection Specialist (Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism on Children and Armed Conflict -MRM CAAC) develops and supports the work of the office in the implementation of the MRM CAAC policy development, programme guidance and provision of technical support to regional and country teams.  In particular, the Specialist contributes in-depth technical knowledge and guidance on good practice around the ethical, safe, and secure monitoring of child rights violations in situations of armed conflict.

In addition, the Specialist contributes to the achievement of concrete and sustainable programme/project results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework.

This will include:

1. Programme development, planning and management
2. Advisory services and technical support
3. Advocacy, networking and partnership building
4. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building
5. Management support

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

• An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in human rights, international law or other relevant social science field.
• A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in experience in human rights monitoring, international humanitarian law, child protection and/or other related areas at the international level.
• Relevant experience in programme/project development and management, human and child rights monitoring, reporting and advocacy programmes in a UN system agency or organization.
• Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts, as an added advantage.
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
