As the Administrative Data Specialist, you will support UNICEF's decentralized work to leverage the full continuum of administrative/routine data for effective decision-making, primarily through work with government, other partners and, UNICEF regional and country offices.

The Data & Analytics Section (D&A) is located within the Division of Data, Research and Policy (DRP) at UNICEF's New York headquarters. The Section supports UNICEF's commitment to better results for all children, including the most vulnerable, through the work of three teams: the "Data Collection Unit", the "Data Analysis Unit" and the "Data Dissemination Unit".

D&A is the hub of UNICEF's technical guidance, quality assurance and technical data architecture for programme work on data across the organization. D&A provides leadership, strategic and normative guidance and technical support to UNICEF's work on generating evidence on the situation of children and women by supporting the collection, analysis, and use of robust data and statistics, administrative data and including strengthening data systems and data literacy.

How can you make a difference?

As the Administrative Data Specialist, you will support UNICEF's decentralized work to leverage the full continuum of administrative/routine data for effective decision-making, primarily through work with government, other partners and, UNICEF regional and country offices.

This will involve:

  1. Capacity and administrative/routine data systems development
  2. Data collection and analysis
  3. Creating a knowledge base on administrative data for children work at the country level
  4. Supporting headquarters-level activities related to the coordination and consolidation of administrative data work across the organization
  5. Resource-mobilization and fundraising

To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in one of the social sciences with statistics, advanced training, preferably a higher degree, in statistics, or an area with advanced statistics, data manipulation and analysis skills.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience at the national and international levels in data analysis, data collection, measurement, methodological development and other areas of applied statistics, data interpretation and use in Sectors of Concern to UNICEF.
  • Professional technical expertise in demography, statistics, or epidemiological analysis is required.
  • Well-developed computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Expertise in data from administrative and routine monitoring systems is required.
  • Expertise in the analysis of household survey data and on data obtained from population censuses is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

This position is classified as “rotational” which means the incumbent is expected to rotate to another duty station upon completion of their tour of duty (5 years for New York, Headquarters).
