The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Background:

The Middle East Regional Office based in Amman, Jordan was created in January 2014 as part of NRC’s reorganization process.  We currently have more than 3,000 staff in the Middle East region assisting people displaced by conflict in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan and Palestine.  Our work is concentrated on the shelter, education, food security, legal assistance and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors with strong protection and resilience focus integrated into our programs.

Overview:

A junior international Event Officer is a young international employee works temporary as an officer in a Country or Regional Office when there is a need for specific skills not found amongst national candidates

The purpose of this position is to support the Admin Coordinator to manage and organize NRC events in Jordan, such as training courses, seminars, workshops, training courses, dinners and luncheons.

 

Role and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

  1. Assist in all aspects of planning and execution of events, workshops, seminar, dinner and luncheons by liaising with both MERO Administration team and facilitators/organizers to deliver successful events

  2. Understand requirements for each event and plan event with attention to logistic, admin and financial procedures and guidelines.

  3. In cooperation with MERO logistic officer, identify and book locations for the events, and liaise with location management for booking, catering

Specific responsibilities

  1. Coordinate event logistics, including registration and attendee tracking, communication with participants

  2. Assemble and arrange delivery of delegate packs, name badges, stationary and other workshops material as appropriate

  3. Support facilitators as required during the event including set-up, liaising with external contractors, etc.

  4. Organize, collect data and evaluate the event’s success

  5. Act as deputy for the MERO Admin Coordinator when required

Excellent English skills, some Arabic is an advantage.

 

Additional Information:

Contract period: 12 months

Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions

Duty station: Amman with up to 10% travel in country.

NRC may be required to verify the identity of its partners and to check that its partners have not been involved in illegal activities.
