Purpose of the post

The People Analytics Unit sits in the Global Talent Management Division, which is part of the Human Resources Department of the ICRC.

Staffing is a critical matter for the ICRC, and our People Analytics team can provide data forecasting and analysis for ICRC’s mandate and its specific needs. It plays a critical role in helping find, grow, and retain the talents that make the ICRC one of the leaders in the humanitarian sector.

The BI & Data Expert will work in close collaboration with (and under the direct supervision of) the Head of People Analytics unit. This position is key to building technical People Analytics and workforce planning tools, techniques, and methodologies. It uncovers new insights, solves problems, and directs ICRC talent actions for a facilitated data-driven decision-making process.

The Unit is in its early days, and is investing in building the institution appreciation and understanding of the value People Analytics can bring. From building tools to influencing thinking, this position offers the opportunity to build and grow in a multicultural and rich environment.

Main duties and responsibilities

Business Intelligence expertise and Capacity building

  • Build metrics which give a deep understanding
    • of the workforce (i.e demography, seniority, skill, trends and patterns) and
    • of the operational requirements (profile competencies)
  • Identify potential talent gaps between workforce needs and resources based on the metrics
  • Create complex and dynamic dashboards with HR metrics using out-of-the box features, customizations and visualisations to help illustrate findings and therefore drive people decisions
  • Advise, support and create material for HR community members and partners on how to use analytics tools
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest visualizations and features available in the business intelligence (BI) tool and proactively apply the new learnings to technical solutions

Contribute to building People Analytics Tools

  • Establish and use forecasting and modelling methods to predict future trends and anticipate potential challenges
  • Develop techniques to perform exploratory analyses (i.e: use drill down methods to diagnose specific challenges),
  • Improve ways of manipulating data (automatization, control mechanisms)
  • Partner with clients and stakeholders (HR Community, Business functions, Senior Managers) to design and produce a wide range of standard reports
  • Design and produce KPIs and relevant analyses to measure organizational progress vs. objectives
  • Be the focal point and partner with Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and HRIS teams for all-data related matters

Education and experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field: Statistics, Finance, Data Science, Applied Mathematics or related fields,
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a data analyst or in a similar role with a strong focus on business intelligence,
  • Extensive experience of manipulating large data sets in Excel or similar tools using data-oriented scripting (e.g. SQL),
  • Experience in managing a data solution (collect, store, and organize data for analytics),
  • Experience and strong working knowledge of using Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, Business Object),
  • Excellent written and communication skills in English, French is a strong asset.

Desired profile and skills

  • Extensive expertise of using a data driven approach to identify trends and insights,
  • Strong attention to detail and high commitment to accuracy and auditing,
  • Experience of working with HR data is an asset,
  • Good Communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills,
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques (generalized linear models, regularized regression, decision trees/random forests, clustering, etc.).
