The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization experienced in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. In the light of the high influx of migrants to the Greek islands, NRC has started an emergency response programme on the island of Chios in mid-October 2015. NRC directly assisted over 70,000 refugees and migrants, working together with the Greek authorities, humanitarian actors and volunteers to set up and maintain a dignified and efficient flow of refugees from arrival at the beach, via registration and reception facilities, to departure by boat or plane to mainland Greece. NRC Thessaloniki is now looking forward to cover the position of Education Officer for Thessaloniki to respond to the humanitarian needs

The purpose of the officer position is day to day implementation of the Education Project.

Job description

• Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
• Implement delegated education project portfolio according to plan of action
• Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
• Ensure proper filing of documents
• Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and
assess new and better ways to assist
• Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
• Support teacher training and coaching
• Ensure proper use of the agreed curriculum
• Lead the setup of parent committees
• Organize teaching schedules in the camps and urban areas, according to the
needs
• Ensure proper equipment and supplies of the classrooms
• Ensure hygiene and safety standards are met in all learning spaces
• Monitor learning progress through exams and sample testing throughout the
project
• Monitor and promote education activities attendance

Qualifications

• Experience from working as a Project Officer in a humanitarian/recovery
context
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
• Good command of English
• Fluency in Greek, both written and verbal
• At least 2 years of experience in teaching
• At least 2 years of experience in teacher’s training
• Master degree is required preferably in education related field
• Knowledge of Arabic or Farsi is a plus
• Experience as a school principal or administrative staff
