Peace and Security Centre

The UNOPS Peace and Security Centre (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Centre is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the partner requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations.
It is headed by the Centre Director who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Centre on behalf of its partners.

Functional Responsibilities

The Recruitment Assistant will support the Pool of Experts (PoE) Team and the Portfolio Teams on recruitment related activities. The incumbent will report to the responsible project manager, and assist on recruitment activities such as coordinating interviews, recording and drafting interview minutes, conducting reference checks and managing records. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Meet with project managers to discuss recruitment-related activities
  • Facilitate telephone/skype/in-person interviews by managing lines and recording minutes (Incumbent might be required to be physically present during some interviews)  
  • Draft and submit finalized interview minutes to project manager before specified deadline, and make revisions upon request
  • Conduct reference checks via telephone or email on potential candidates
  • Collect educational credentials from candidates
  • Ensure the standard documentation required by the project manager is complete
  • Assist in coordinating various aspects of the interview process or the recruitment process as needed
  • Perform any other duties as required

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education and Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in English Literature, Journalism, Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related subjects with at least 1 year of relevant experience is required;OR
  • Secondary School or High school diploma with 5 years of relevant experience is required
Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience in general administration is required
  • Excellent grammar, punctuation, and general writing skills are required
  • Excellent typing skills is required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Skype is required
  • Experience in fields of communication and translation is desired 
  • Experience in writing and editing articles, reports, and meeting minutes is desired
  • Experience in supporting recruitment activities is desired
  • Knowledge of UN/UNOPS HR policies and procedures is desired
  • Knowledge of mine action is desired
  • Previous experience in UN/UNOPS Human Resources or administrative field is desired
Language:
  • Fluency in English (Writing, speaking and reading) is required
  • Fluency in French  (Writing, speaking and reading) is required
  • Knowledge of other UN official language is desired

Contract type, level and duration

Contract type: Local Individual Contractor Agreement (Home-based retainer contract)
Contract level: LICA - 3 (ICS-3)
Contract duration: One year with possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds
