The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

NRC is looking for Shelter assistant officer in our office in Stanitsa Luhanska.
The purpose of the Shelter Assistant position is to assist in the day to day implementation of the Shelter project.

Job description

Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
Assist the Shelter Officer in all Shelter and NFI related activities on field level
Assist beneficiaries in the rehabilitation/reconstruction of their homes
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
Ensure proper filing of documents
Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
Conduct site visits for monitoring/supervising the work and provide technical assistance to the beneficiaries
Represent NRC towards beneficiaries, third parties and local authorities/municipalities
Support the execution of NFI activities as directed by the Shelter Officer/NFI dedicated NRC Coordinator/Officer
Conduct any kind of assessments for Shelter and NFI
Reporting to the direct line manager
Provide any kind of assistance to the shelter programme as whole, based on needs
Assist the Shelter Officer in registration of beneficiaries; verification of needs based on home visits, post distribution monitoring; and/or distribution of assistance in line with NRC policies and donor requirements.


Experience from working in a similar position in the humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position's responsibilities
Knowledge of computer programs: Microsoft office, Word, Excel, Power Point
Knowledge of English will be an asset.
