Assistant Surveyor , Multiple positions

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Road Surveyor and the overall supervision of the Project Manager, the Assistant Surveyor is required to perform the following duties and responsibilities for UNOPS implemented Roads.

  • Assist the Road Surveyor and / or Road Engineer to organize and carry out the identification and location of all beacons and benchmarks to enable the contractor to set out and construct the works;
  • Assist the Road Surveyor for checking and verification of the setting out of the works by contractor;
  • Assist the Road Surveyor and Road Engineer to carry out all necessary surveys for the calculation of the quantities of the completed works and proper handling of the survey data submitted by the contractor;
  • Assist the Road Surveyor and Road Engineer to check and verify of all benchmarks and principal setting out points to be used in the setting out of the works;
  • Bring to the immediate attention of the Road Engineer / Road Surveyor any issues or matters that might adversely affect the quality, time and / or economic performance of the works;
  • Report on all matters pertinent to his duties to Road Engineer and / or Road Surveyor;
  • Assist the Road Surveyor and Road Engineer to maintain day to day survey records with appropriate format developed by the Road Surveyor;
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Road Surveyor.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

  •  Ability and commitment to exercise task assigned by the Road Surveyor and/ or Road Engineer;
  • Commitment and ability to catch up with trainings and or technical advises extended by the Road Surveyor and Road Engineer.

Final Product

  • Requested tasks are delivered in a timely, efficient manner and according to UNOPS procedures to meet road requirements;
 From time to time develop personal capacity to independently undertake relevant tasks assigned by the Road Surveyor and Road Engineer

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Secondary School education is required;
  • A certification/diploma in Engineering or surveying would be a significant asset.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of   relevant experience;
  • Previous work experience in similar development stage and working conditions in South Sudan will be an advantage;
  • Substantial professional experience on construction and / or design surveying activities would be an advantage.

Language

  • The candidate must be thoroughly proficient in written and spoken English.

This is local position and therefore open to the Nationals of South Sudan and applicants who have a valid residency work permit.
