Background Information - Job-specific

The overall supervision of the role will be under the responsibility of UNOPS HQ Communications Group (CG) in Copenhagen. CG is responsible for producing and disseminating information about UNOPS to external audiences, as well as facilitating the flow of information within the organization, ensuring efficiency information delivery and broad sharing of knowledge and best practices.

The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS. UNOPS is committed to achieving a truly diverse workforce.

***The incumbent will be offered a retainer contract, i.e. one issued for a period of time during which the services of the Individual Contractor will be required to work when and as required. There is no expectation of a minimum number of working days, and the workload will depend on the translation needs of CG.

Functional Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Write and edit a range of high-quality content, including press releases, articles, information sheets, brochures, newsletters, reports and key messages;
  • Produce and oversee the production of specific information/communication products (e.g. brochures, backgrounders);
  • Identify and develop storylines for media outreach (e.g. op-eds, photo essays, press releases)
  • Liaise with regional and country offices, and project managers to secure and approve information, written content and images prior to publishing.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Advanced university (Master’s) degree, preferably in journalism, communications, international affairs, social sciences or other relevant areas of expertise is required;
  • A combination of a first-level university degree with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work experience

  • Minimum of two year’s relevant experience, preferably in a communications department is required; Previous experience at UNOPS is an asset;
  • Experience liaising with journalists and media outlets is an asset.

Language requirements

  • Fluency in English is required;

Contract level: I-ICA1
Contract duration: one year initially, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability
