User/Client Engagement Lead The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a highly-motivated individual for a newly-established position to lead and coordinate efforts oriented to ensure that user consultation and participation are integrated across USAID SERVIR Amazonia activities. USAID SERVIR Amazonia is a joint USAID/NASA opportunity to help the Amazon region (Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Guyana, and Suriname) to improve environmental management and resilience to climate stress by strengthening the capacity of governments and other key stakeholders to integrate Earth observation information and geospatial technologies into development decision-making.

The Position: The User Engagement Lead work on specific products, tools, trainings, and events, to ensure that necessary user engagement activities are planned and that the right mix of skills are in place for engaging users effectively. He/she will have primary responsibility for developing approaches and templates that guide systematic user engagement as well as working closely with other key personnel to define roles and responsibilities for completing user engagement task. This position will report to the project’s Chief of Party and will work closely with members of the CIP team. The User/Client Engagement Lead will be based in the Amazonian Region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The position will be responsible for ensuring that all SERVIR activities:

  • Develop approaches and templates that guide systematic user engagement as well as working closely with other key personnel to define roles and responsibilities for completing user engagement tasks.
  • Systematically identify stakeholders and assess their needs
  • Develop user engagement strategies to ensure stakeholder involvement up front, in design and prototyping, and in uptake and maintenance
  • Regularly contribute information to the user database and other knowledge management tools related to user engagement and outreach.Selection criteria:
  • At least a Master’s level degree in International Development, Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Adult Education, or other field related to this position.
  • At least seven years of experience in international development approaches relevant to this position, including engaging with various users of geospatial applications including policy makers, communities, students, and practitioners.
  • Ability to identify relevant collaboration partners within and outside the institution; maintain existing linkages and effectively communicate with stakeholders on different levels.
  • Proven record of productive engagement with government institutions, NGOs, and scientists. Knowledge of the political, social, cultural, environmental and development context of the Amazonia.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the following languages: English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Conditions: The employment contract will be for a three-year term (with three-month probation period) with the possibility of renewal, subject to availability of funding. Any offer made with regards to this vacancy is conditional to the formal award of the afore-mentioned grant to the CIP-led consortium. The salary will be internationally competitive, paid in US dollars, and commensurate with experience.
