The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is the global leader in the provision of data, information and analysis on internal displacement. IDMC monitors all situations of internal displacement, provides quantitative estimates of the numbers of IDPs worldwide, and develops research and analysis which seeks to better inform policy and operational decisions that affect the lives of internally displaced people
IDMC is seeking to recruit for a 6-month internship under the guidance of the Head of the Policy and Research Department.
● Provide research assistance to the Policy and Research department.
● Support and background research for the development of departmental publications.
Specific responsibilities:
● Research support to IDMC publications led by the Policy and Research department, in particular to the Africa Report on Internal Displacement and the Global Report on Internal Displacement.
● Support IDMC staff and contracted consultants through literature reviews and assistance with reference research and bibliographies, and other research support as requested.
● Background research for case studies and spotlights in internal reports and external publications.
● Support to data analysis and contextual analysis as required.
● Perform other duties in the department as appropriate.
Critical interfaces for this position are:
● GRID Coordinator: research support, such as literature reviews and case study research.
● ARID consultant: all research support, including filling information gaps as requested.
● P&R team members: additional team support and participation in team meetings.
● Senior Monitoring Coordinators: support to data analysis in relation to reports and publications.
• Experience of providing research support to policy makers, think tanks or in similar contexts or applied research and policy-relevant writing is desirable
• Strong writing skills and experience in condensing large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data and analysis in an efficient manner
• Strong initiative and collaborative working style
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal – knowledge of another official UN language a plus

Qualifications
• Master’s degree or close to completion in political science, migration studies, development economics, international development, humanitarian affairs, disaster risk and climate change or related field• Experience of providing research support to policy makers, think tanks or in similar contexts or applied research and policy-relevant writing is desirable
