If you are a committed, creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you.

For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

Background & Rationale

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. To reduce inequities, it is critical to know who the most marginalized children are, where they are, and why they are in those circumstances. Data help decision-makers understand the current situation, determine whether progress has been made, and identify where children are lagging behind. Data can also provide quick feedback loops for adjustments and corrective measures in service-delivery. Finally, data generation is increasingly coming from many different sources, including from children themselves. To maximize the potential of data for children, UNICEF is working to evolve its own data work with the rapidly shifting data landscape and to harness the potential of the ongoing data revolution to create value for children.

UNICEF places a high priority making available timely and reliable information with which to monitor the situation of children and women. Statistically sound and internationally comparable data are essential for developing evidence-based policies and programmes, as well as for monitoring countries’ progress toward national goals and global commitments, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNICEF publications are one vital element of UNICEF’s work to communicate these issues to decision makers and partners around the world.

The SDGs era will be particularly demanding with regard to policy advocacy related publications and UNICEF seeks an information design consultant with an expertise in data visualization to create a visual identity for and support design of a wide range of publications and materials.
