For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

Purpose of the Assignment

The consultant will provide support and advice to the staff in the area of donor report and proposal writing in English language. Focus will be on those are responsible drafting reports, texts, proposals and stories in UNICEF various programmatic area. Through this process it is expected that staff will be better equipped, and be more productive in the current roles through higher quality writing and better messaging. Areas to address include: 

  • Different types of reports, recognizing the audience needs
  • Outlines, writing and a rough draft
  • Applying a clear and logical structure
  • Meeting the objective of each section
  • Writing summaries
  • Using visual aids
  • Creating reader-friendly formats
  • Editing and proofreading reports

Assignment Tasks

  1. Pre-workshop design and preparation, which would include at the minimum (a) analysis of programme needs (b) developing and/or preparing handout materials and (c) prepare draft agenda and brief concept note describing the workshop
  2. Conduct 2-days training and group work achieving training objectives using a participatory training methodology
  3. Support participated staff remotely by reviewing the group assignment given and provide feedback and advice on how to improve
  4. Prepare and submit a final training report with follow-up activities

Expected Deliverables

  1. Projected work plan for the assignment

  2. 2 days training for staff are conducted 

  3. Participated staff are remotely supported

  4. Final report documenting the process, identifying successes and challenges experienced

Qualifications of Successful Candidate 

  • Master’s degree in relevant field of study
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional working experience in proposal and report writing
  • Good understanding of UNICEF policies, country programming and fund raising
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong English writing skills 
  • Experience with the implementation of the staff development approach is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge and advanced skills
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills in English (oral and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
