Under the authority of the Director of Public Information and the guidance and direct supervision of the Chief of Media Relations Section, the incumbent  is responsible for writing, reviewing, editing information materials in Arabic for publication on all UNESCO media channels. In particular, the incumbent will perform the following duties\:

  • Maintain regular contact with UNESCO’s Sectors and Bureaus to identify activities and events that may be of interest to UNESCO’s audience; Prepare cross media information material for the promotion of these activities.
  • Research, write, edit in the designated language, and enrich with multimedia content, feature stories and any other required public information materials, including products for the media like press releases and media advisories.
  • Manage the editorial content in Arabic, using UNESCO's integrated web platform as the key channel. Write, translate/adapt and edit content in the required journalistic style, and ensure its quality on the homepage and in the site’s major sections.
  • Facilitate the interactions with Field Office communication officers in the Arab region in order to have an inclusive management of Arabic content, relevant for the region and consistent with the overall communication strategy.
  • Manage the UNESCO Arabic social media channels translating, editing graphic materials and publishing them to drive the audiences to the UNESCO sites.

EDUCATION

  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of communication, journalism or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 4 years of progressive responsible relevant experience in at least two of the following fields\: communication, journalism, media and public relation, including at least 2 years at the international level.
  • Cross-media editorial experience.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent editorial competencies.
  • Knowledge of UNESCO's mandate, its priorities and activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relations within a multicultural environment.
  • Proven analytical skills, including demonstrated ability to present difficult or complex topics to unspecialized audiences.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a multitasking manner, respecting tight deadlines, prioritizing work schedules and paying close attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to tailor language, tone, style and format to match audience. 
  • Good IT skills, including knowledge of office software (Word, Excel etc.).

LANGUAGES

  • Excellent knowledge of Arabic.
  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other.

LANGUAGES

 

  • Knowledge of other official UNESCO language (Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
