The position aims to generate new funding sources for UNICEF Sri Lanka. Specifically the incumbent will be responsible for scoping, identifying and forming fundraising/ resource mobilization partnerships with in-country private sector entities, in addition to developing and managing UNICEF Sri Lanka’s planned individual giving programme, including face to face, pledge and online/ digital fundraising.

Sri Lanka is changing, as so are we. To ensure that every child in Sri Lanka enjoys their rights to education, health, protection, and has the chance of childhood, a future and a fair chance, we need to work with new and diverse partners to raise vital funds for our work and to advocate for children’s rights. These partners will include businesses and corporations (the private sector) present in Sri Lanka, as well as individuals and influencers.  Your role as Resource Mobilisation Officer will be key in the identification and formation of these partnerships, for the benefit of every child in Sri Lanka.

As part of the Communication, Advocacy and Partnership unit, your role will consist of:

  • Helping to develop and implement a strategy to create significant fundraising and/or advocacy partnerships between UNICEF and the private sector
  • Identify, research, meet and develop proposals with relevant potential private sector partners in order to develop mutually beneficial partnerships, with the aim of securing long term funding and/ or substantial other benefits for UNICEF Sri Lanka programmatic priorities.
  • Provide effective account management to new and existing partners and ensure efficient reporting on the outcomes of all partnerships.
  • Helping to develop and maintains deep knowledge and familiarity with current and prospective partners and relevant stakeholders, contributing to a database of key contacts and to UNICEF’s base of knowledge on partnership and resource mobilization
  • Helping to manage corporate screenings and approval of proposals with the PFP Division in Geneva/ Regional PFP unit in Bangkok, as well as working with relevant colleagues to support global partnerships active in Sri Lanka.

In addition, you will:

  • Help to develop and manage UNICEF Sri Lanka’s planned individual giving programme including identifying and proposing suitable methods including face to face and online/ digital fundraising), recruiting and managing agencies, and leading funding raising at key moments including during emergencies.
  • Advise on best practice from other UNICEF country offices with the ultimate aim of maximizing income for UNICEF Sri Lanka from these channels.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

  • A University Degree in the following fields: Marketing, Business, Fundraising/Philanthropy, Communications, External Relations or related areas.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and negotiating skills are essential.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in external relations, liaison and/or resource-mobilization & fundraising activities, preferably in an international organization is required.
  • Experience of fundraising, corporate philanthropy and/or cause related marketing is an advantage but not necessary.
  • Fluency in English with excellent writing skills a must
  • Fluency in either or both of Sinhala and Tamil an asset
