CERN offers a limited number of internships to undergraduate students for practical training assignments.

The students mostly have technical or administrative backgrounds and their university requires or encourages them to spend a training period in industry or in a research establishment. The traineeship must form part of candidates' studies.

In order to be eligible for a contract of association as a trainee, the student must:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be enrolled in a full-time higher education course (Students who have already commenced doctoral studies are not eligible)
• Be specialised in one of the following field: applied physics, computing, mathematics, electrical, electronic, mechanical or civil engineering, instrumentation for accelerators and particle physics experiments, materials science, radiation protection, safety and environmental protection, surveying, ultra-high vacuum, scientific communication. A very limited number of places may be available in administrative fields: translation, advanced secretarial work, accounting, legal services, human resources, librarianship, logistics

• Have a good knowledge of English and/or French

• Return to his/her educational establishment after completion of his/her stay at CERN

• Have adequate financial resources to support him- or herself in the local area

• The appointment will be for a minimum duration of one month and a maximum duration of six months in any twelve-month period

• During the requested training period the student must remain enrolled in an educational establishment (the following document (link is external) will need to be signed and stamped by your educational establishment as a proof of enrolment).

• Students must have a medical insurance covering occupational illness and accidents that is adequate in Switzerland and France

Please note that only a limited number of places are available.

Applications will be considered by the potential supervisors who wish to host a student.

Only students whose applications are under serious consideration will be contacted by departmental secretariat of the selecting supervisor.

Students whose applications were not selected will be informed of the outcome by email approximately one month before the desired start date.

Le CERN accueille un nombre limité d'étudiants de l'enseignement supérieur pour des stages pratiques.

Ce programme est destiné aux étudiants principalement issus de branches techniques et administratives dont les universités exigent ou encouragent l'accomplissement d'un stage dans le cadre de leurs études. Le stage doit faire partie du programme d'études suivi.

Pour bénéficier d'un contrat d'association en tant que stagiaire, l'étudiant doit :

• Être âgé d'au moins 18 ans

• Suivre un enseignement supérieur à plein temps (Les étudiants qui ont déjà commencé leurs études en doctorat ne sont pas éligibles)

• Être spécialisé dans une des disciplines suivantes : physique appliquée, informatique, mathématiques, électrotechnique, électronique, construction mécanique, génie civil, géotechnique, instrumentation destinée aux accélérateurs et aux expériences en physique des particules, sciences des matériaux, sécurité et environnement, ultra-vide, communication scientifique. Quelques places pourraient également être disponibles dans les domaines suivants: traduction, secrétariat avancé, comptabilité, services juridiques, gestion du personnel, documentation, logistique

• Avoir une bonne maîtrise de la langue française et/ou anglaise

• Réintégrer son établissement d'études après avoir terminé son stage au CERN

• Avoir les ressources financières suffisantes pour subvenir à ses besoins dans la région

• La durée du stage pratique ne doit pas dépasser six mois sur toute période de 12 mois

• Durant la période de stage, l'étudiant doit rester enregistré dans un établissement scolaire. Il sera demandé aux candidats sélectionnés de fournir une déclaration de l'organisme d'origine.

• Les étudiants doivent avoir une assurance maladie et accidents professionnels qui offre une couverture adéquate en Suisse et en France

Veuillez noter que le CERN offre un nombre de places limité.

Les demandes seront considérées par des superviseurs intéressés d'accueillir un/des stagiaire(s).

Seuls les étudiants dont la candidature est susceptible d'être retenue seront directement contactés par le secrétariat de département ou le superviseur.

Les étudiants dont la candidature n'a pas été retenue serons informé par email environ 1 mois avant la date de début souhaitée.
