Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified regional protection advisor (RPA).  
 
About the job 
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Director for DRC West Africa, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting DRC/DDG in quality protection programming at the regional and country level (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroun). This includes providing support, advice, and quality checks on protection aspects of country and regional strategies as well as on programming initiatives and concrete projects. The RPA will also contribute to raising DRC’s profile and involvement when it comes to relevant policy and advocacy initiatives. As the technical focal point for country protection staff, the RPA will be responsible for developing DRC’s protection capacity in the WA region as well as:  
 
  • Provide technical support to the regional office and to country programmes to ensure the highest level of quality in protection analyses, strategies and responses, in adherence with global standards and principles, and ensuring the harmonisation of protection approaches across the different countries in the region  
  • Lead the development of strategic protection documents, guidelines, advocacy papers, SOPs capacity-building tools at the regional level and support countries in the development of protection analyses and strategies 
  • Create viable and relevant Protection Information Management system(s) in coordination with MEL colleagues for gathering, processing, analysing and sharing protection-relevant data, if necessary also involving research-related components. 
  • Provide inputs and guidance for mainstreaming and integrating protection in DRC/DDG proposals and interventions and provide technical expertise and support on protection proposals 
  • Establish processes, systems and learning events in WA that will lead to a general capacity-building and professionalization of DRC/DDG staff and partners on protection.  
  • Contribute to DRC/DDG advocacy and policy influencing in the region, externally as well as internally in DRC/DDG, and representing the organisation in relevant fora.  
  • Liaise with and support regional initiatives with protection and research components, including in coordination with the West Africa Regional Mixed Migration Secretariat / 4Mi. 
 
 
About you 
To be successful in this role we expect you to be an expert within protection. Moreover, we also expect the following:  
 
Required qualifications 
  • Advanced academic qualification in a relevant field (law, social sciences or related disciplines). 
  • A clear understanding of protection issues, legal frameworks and professional standards in humanitarian and displacement contexts. 
  • At least 5 years of senior working experience in humanitarian protection. 
  • Protection experience at the field level. 
  • Experience in international organisations and/or NGOs.  
  • Excellent analytical skills and communication skills in writing and speech. 
  • Experience with facilitating and leading internal organisational processes. 
  • A facilitating, listening and respectful approach to colleagues and partners and thus be an excellent team-worker. 
  • Fluency in English and French. 
 
Desirable qualifications 
Previous experience with DRC/DDG  
Knowledge of the humanitarian context in West Africa 
Previous experience in advisory roles
