UNICEF Sierra Leone is looking for a Nutrition Specialist. The Specialist supports the development and preparation of the nutrition (or a sector of) program/s and is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting of progress of Young Child Feeding and Nutrition. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable results in maternal, infant and child nutrition programs/projects according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM) and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework. The Nutrition Unit is part of the Child Survival & Development (CSD) Section that implement programme that directly impact children’s nutrition and health with linkages to other programme areas.  The Unit works with other implementing partners to support the national nutrition programme of the Government of Sierra Leone in order to improve access and utilization of facility-based and community-based nutrition services by nutritionally vulnerable population of children and women. This is envisioned to be achieved by fostering an enabling policy and programme environment for multi-sectoral work in nutrition, strengthening linkages with different sectors specifically health, HIV and early childhood development (ECD), enhancing capacities of service providers at the facility and community levels, mobilizing communities and creating awareness on optimal nutrition practices.  Read more on our programme on: https://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/sierraleone.html

To make a difference in the lives of children and women in Sierra Leone, the Nutrition Specialist reports to the Nutrition Manager P-4 for guidance and general supervision. The Specialist supports the development and preparation of the nutrition (or a sector of) program/s and is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on nutrition programmes through:

  1. Support to programs/projects development and planning
  2. Program management, monitoring and delivery of results
  3. Technical and operational support to program implementation
  4. Networking and partnership building
  5. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

 To qualify as a champion for every child, you will have…

  • An Advanced University Degree or higher in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, or other health related science field is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in nutrition, public health, related research or planning and management in relevant areas of maternal, infant and child nutrition, at the international level some of which preferably in a developing country is required.
  • Relevant experience in health/nutrition program/project development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an asset.
  • Familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge in a local language is an asset.
