Background:

NRC is operating in Iraq since 2010 to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable people affected by on-going conflict in the region. It has its country office in Erbil, KR-I and has area offices in Baghdad, Dohuk, Erbil, Kirkuk and Hamam Al- Alil.

NRC national program strategy for 2016 takes a whole of Iraq approach focusing on CCCM, WASH, Shelter, Education, Emergency Cash modalities, housing and land property (HLP) and Information Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA). In 2016, NRC will continue to consolidate operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KR-I) by providing care and maintenance facilities in IDPs camps, strengthening the relevant government authorities and building systems more at community levels as opposed to household level for successful exit, while also considerably scaling up operations in the South-Central regions of Iraq (with focus on the Anbar and Baghdad Governorates). A further priority will be to reach populations in harder to access areas through working with implementing national partners, established community network contacts and UN-led Rapid Response Mechanisms (RRM). Target caseload will be people affected by displacement including IDPs in camps, IDPs outside of camps, host communities, returnees and refugees. 

 

Overview:

The purpose of Education Officer position is to oversee the day to day implementation of the education project. Education officer will oversee all operations and supervise education assistants.

Education Officer will be reporting to Education Project Coordinator.

The position will be based in Mosul.

 

Ideal Candidate Profile:

University is required but higher education degree is preferred with minimum (2) two years experience in working with children and/or educators; Ministry of Education (MoE)-level experience a plus Experience training or building the capacity of others. Basic knowledge of child protection and/or psychosocial support in humanitarian and recover/context. The candidate ideally should have previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts. fluent spoken and written English and Arabic are required.

 

Key Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Implement education activities under direction of the Education Project Coordinator
  • Supervise Education Assistants and provide support to them in line with program objectives
  • Develop and maintain effective filing systems, both electronic and paper
  • Update and maintain effective workplans and logframes
  • Provide support to NRC activities, schools and incentive staff in line with NRC quality standards
  • Document technical issues and questions, and channel to the Education PC
  • Ensure ongoing monitoring, tracking, and reporting of education projects
  • Regularly travel to the field to support education, recreation and psychosocial support (PSS) activities
  • Oversee distributions of teaching and learning materials

 

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the circumstances, needs and challenges internally displaced persons (IDP)/refugee children face
  • Understanding of the role of education in meeting the needs of IDP/refugee populations
  • Understanding of SPHERE and/or INEE minimum standards
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting
  • Previous experience supervising teams

 

The post will be for (3) three months contract duration with possibility of extension- subject to funds.

Salary: 5/1 according to NRC-Iraq's salary scale.

Duty Station: Mosul, Nineveh Area Office with some visits to NRC field offices.
