Head of Project (m/f)

in Pathein, Ayeyarwady Delta Region

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until June 30, 2017. The place of work will be Pathein, the provincial capital of the Ayeyarwady Delta Region in Myanmar. Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.

The Project supports the Rice Seed Sector development in the Ayeyarwady Delta Region by aiming at the improvement of existing quality assurance systems and multi-stakeholder engagement supporting farmer and agricultural businesses.

As Head of Project, you are responsible for the implementation and coordination of the activities of Welthungerhilfe, in accordance with the framework specified as regards content, financing and timescales.

Your responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility of the implementation of project activities as well finance, logistics, monitoring, administration, etc.
  • Represent the project to government stakeholders and Donors on all levels with his/her duty station in Pathein/Ayeyawardy Delta region
  • Proactively involve and include the Department of Agriculture (DOA) on provincial and, if necessary federal level, in project activities
  • Oversee the coordination and harmonization of the project activities between all partners (Wageningen, DOA, Private Sector and MRF).
  • Manage staff according to WHH leadership principles, staff policies and WHH strategy
  • Represent WHH in-country vis à vis relevant national and international stakeholders and partners in coordination with the Country Office
  • Expand WHH network with relevant stakeholders from civil society, government, academia and the private sector within the context of the project and project area
  • Marketing, public relations and local image management
  • Accompany visiting donors, WHH head office staff, journalists or other guests
  • Experience in Early Generation seed systems and public-private partnership is an advantage
  • Experience in value chain management required

Your profile

  • A university or technical degree or qualification in the fields of agricultural science, tropical agriculture, nutritional science or other relevant qualification with relevant experience in managing value chain projects and solid experience in the seed sector; experience in Early Generation seed systems would be an advantage
  • Several years of project and management experience in the planning and supervision of aid measures of international (aid) organisations, preferably in the region
  • Solid professional experience within a humanitarian context, in the management of complex aid measures, as well as very good analytical skills for evaluating the humanitarian and security-related situation
  • Experience in public private sector partnerships
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure
  • A very good level of written and spoken English
