Expert Agricultural Business Development (m/f)

in Pathein, Ayeyarwady Delta Region, Myanmar

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until June 30, 2019. The place of work will be Pathein, the provincial capital of the Ayeyarwady Delta Region, Myanmar. Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required. 

As Expert for Agricultural Business Development you will be responsible for the Rice Seed Sector Development in the Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar. You are responsible for implementing and supervising all agricultural project activities in our project region in Pathein, within the specified organisational, scheduling, contractual and financial guidelines.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out and analyse a market survey
  • Review and assess the business capacity of seed companies
  • Design, develop and elaborate a "Quality Seed Marketing Strategy"
  • Provide technical and conceptual guidance on business planning to small farmers as well as seed companies
  • Support all activities related to promotion and marketing of quality seed
  • Establish market linkages with buyers, sellers, producers as well as with government authorities
  • Maintain and foster network of relevant stakeholders in the seed business
  • Supervise and coordinate two Seed Business Experts within the project team
  • Represent WHH in-country vis à vis selected relevant national and international stakeholders and partners

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in the field of agricultural science/economics, or comparable completed training; experience in the seed sector would be an advantage
  • Several years of project and coordination experience in carrying out aid and development projects of international (aid) agencies - preferably in the region
  • Solid experience in advising small and mid scale agribusiness, in designing financing options for small agribusiness, in developing business plans and management systems and experience in market surveys and analysis
  • Coordination and organisational skills, even under high workloads and difficult local conditions
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team
  • A very good level of written and spoken English
