Specialist - Resource Mobilization and Business Development

The Partnerships Unit is part of the Strategy, Partnerships, and Communications (SPC) Department within the Office of the Director-General that works to fulfil the strategic vision and foster integration in organizational delivery. The Partnership Unit supports the Director-General and Management Team to pursue strategic opportunities to deepen and broaden engagement with GGGI’s 27 Members and signatories, partner countries where the Institute has operations and that are in the process of formal accession to GGGI, as well as non‑state actors working in the field of green growth. This includes managing GGGI’s organization-wide business development / resource mobilization efforts, together with operational units responsible for country offices and thematic activities.

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Reporting to the Head of Partnerships, the Specialist will directly support GGGI resource mobilization and business development activities, targeting both traditional providers of development assistance as well as private sector and philanthropies. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, results-focused, team player who will work to strengthen GGGI’s internal procedures for preparing project proposals, help identify funding opportunities and assess GGGI’s eligibility, provide quality assurance of funding proposals, and monitor compliance with current grant requirements.

 

PURPOSE

  • Develops and implements strategies and campaigns to support organizational resource mobilization efforts.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities and supports organizational-wide efforts to strengthen resource mobilization, including private sector and philanthropies.
  • Provides quality assurance of funding proposals, and assures that they meet both internal and resource partner requirements.
  • Monitors compliance with grant financial and nonfinancial requirements for a portfolio of European resource partners.
  • Supports the Head of Partnerships in the delivery of the Unit’s functions and GGGI’s goals.

 

ENGAGEMENT

  • Collaborates with staff of the Partnerships Unit to refine resource mobilization and business development systems and processes.
  • Engages country and thematic teams to build their understanding of resource partner priorities, as well as ensure compliance with funding agreements..
  • Engages with HQ and country teams to assure the quality of innovative funding proposal developed together with partner organizations.
  • Collaborates with strategy and communication staff to support effective outreach of GGGI’s mission, service offerings, and impact.
  • Builds relations with current and prospective resource partners and partner organizations, to raise awareness of GGGI’s work, and identify resource mobilization/business development opportunities.

 

DELIVERY

  • Defines a work plan that reflects the organizational priorities, planning and developing actions to manage delivery risks, under the supervision of the Head of Partnerships;
  • Effectively organizes and delivers tasks within established procedures and resources, integrated with the related work of colleagues, and mindful of the expectations of resource partners/donors;
  • Develops dashboards to monitor resource mobilization/ business development activities and inform decision making;
  • Reports against agreed metrics/indicators to support Management’s monitoring and evaluation of resource mobilization / business development;
  • Captures lessons learned in resource mobilization and business development to support improvement of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supports the development and delivery of training for staff who contribute to developing funding proposals.
  • Ensure timely and effective compliance with resource partner’s reporting obligations and requirements.

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least ten years of experience in resource mobilization and business development, including working for an international organization, foundation, philanthropy or initiative;
  • Advanced academic degree in sustainable development, international relations, economics, political economy, management, or a related discipline;
  • Experience working in an international context, including working in a foreign country, and preferably multiple countries;
  • Excellent written and oral command of the English language is essential; proficiency in another language(s) is desirable.

 

FUNCTIONAL

  • Direct experience developing successful complex project proposals for traditional providers of development assistance, as well as private sector and philanthropies;
  • Excellent understanding of donor architecture and agency policies and procedures, as well as green growth agencies;
  • Proven experience communicating effectively and maintaining strong relationships with resource partners/ donors;
  • Experience using a constituent relations management (CRM) system to design and implement resource mobilization and business development activities; experience with Salesforce is an asset, and a proficiency with Microsoft Office 365;
  • Willingness to travel to developing and least developed countries for short-term assignments.
