1. ••PLACE IN THE ORGANIZATION

The incumbent is responsible to the Chief Field Education Programme through the School Principal and Area Education Officer.

2.•• RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

In accordance with established policy and procedures, the incumbent:

•     •••••Assists with the delivery of quality basic education services to refugee students enrolled within the school so that the academic potential of each child is realized and overall school academic achievement level is improved; develops and maintains a safe and stimulating learning environment within the school through the ongoing development of respect, discipline and morale among staff, students and parents;

••••• Monitors and evaluates students' progress, specifically:

(i)               Reviews and verifies the progress reports and achievement levels of students and advises on any necessary education and /or other corrective measures to be taken;

(ii)              Acts as a focal point for the co-ordination of support services (remedial teaching, psycho-social counseling, medical referral and special needs) and as a liaison between students, teaching staff and parents to effectively address issues identified;•

•     Oversees the implementation of management action to improve under-performing teachers including:

(i)               Supervises the preparation of the training needs assessment at school level, provides input to department planning and coordinates the participation of teachers on approved programmes in accordance with prioritized needs;

(ii)             •Supervises and validates teacher classroom performance and provides feedback to the teacher including assessment of the impact of training provided.

(iii)            Recommends to the school principal when the teacher has successfully completed all necessary• improvement actions;

•     Develops and maintain• positive and supportive relationships with the school council, students parliament, parents, community leaders, NGOs and other relevant organizations through effective communication and action, as appropriate; facilitates visits of guests and persons concerned to the school as required;

•     Ensures the effective and efficient administration of the staff, students and premises, equipment and supplies in his/her care and custody in accordance with UNRWA guidelines;

•     Acts for the School Principal in his/her absence;

•     Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

3.    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Academic and professional qualifications:

•     A university degree in a subject taught in an UNRWA school.

•     At least one year Teacher Training Certificate.

Experience:

At least six years satisfactory teaching experience in an UNRWA school..

Languages:

•     Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic.

•     Good command of spoken and written English.

Competencies:

•     Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in team working environment.

•     Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

•     Ability to work under pressure and meet target deadlines.

•     Problem solving and decision making skills.

•     Proficiency in the standard PC applications used by the Agency.

4.•• DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

•     Advanced degree in a related subject.

•     Possession of a valid driving license.

5.      EQUIVALENCY:

Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered, should less than two qualified candidates are found.
