Background

Following the approval of Cabinet, the Bahrain’s Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) was established in November 2014 by way of a formal agreement between the Minister of Energy and the UNDP.

The key objectives of the unit is to develop a cohesive and sustainable energy policy and to promote Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Conservation in the country. The unit will also work towards bridging the legal, institutional, and capacity gaps in order for the Bahrain energy sector to meet the future challenges.

SEU is the entity mandated to lead and promote energy efficiency practices, transfer and diffuse renewable energy technologies and draft related policies and regulatory frameworks in close coordination with stakeholders and partners in the Kingdom of Bahrain. SEU has developed the National Energy Efficiency Energy Action Plan (NEEAP) and the National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) in accordance with the guidelines of the League of Arab States, with articulated targets that will eventually be the base for developing the National Energy Policy.

SEU is seeking for a qualified solar engineer to provide expert services to the NREAP implementation committees and to a range of public sector and private sector clients within Bahrain.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and implement solar energy projects, from large-scale grid-connected projects to rooftop installations.

  • Perform cost/ benefit analyses for solar systems.

  • Conduct engineering site visits to assess and document site dimensions, electrical systems, PV array location, load data, and utility interconnection options for use in design of solar systems. 

  • Perform computer simulation of solar photovoltaic generation system performance or energy production to optimize efficiency.

  • Design of photovoltaic or solar thermal systems.

  • Develop design specifications for solar energy systems or components.

  • Create electrical single-line diagrams, or connection diagrams for solar electric systems using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

  • Create plans for solar energy system development, monitoring, and evaluation activities.

  • Provide technical support to installation teams during installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, or performance monitoring.

  • Develop standard operation procedures and quality or safety standards for solar installation work.

  • Create checklists for review or inspection of completed solar installation projects.

  • Assist SEU and Project Development Managers in writing tender documents and contracts.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory safety standards, practices, codes.

  • Foster effective and positive business relationships with all parties throughout project phases

  • Perform other relevant duties as required

Required Skills and Experience

Qualification

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical or mechanical engineering, master's degree preferred

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • A high level of computer skills and computer-aided design (CAD) capabilities.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of related work experience.

Language requirement

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Arabic language is an asset
