Who are we?

 

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading global displacement agency working in 40 countries, in conjunction with our specialist mine action unit, Danish Demining Group (DDG), which has been working in Afghanistan since 1999. DRC commenced operations in Afghanistan in 2011 and is today a leading actor in humanitarian response with membership of the Humanitarian Country Team and recent high-level representation at the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan. DRC-DDG Afghanistan is part of DRC’s Central & South-West Asia (CASWA) region covering Afghanistan, Iran and Paki-stan. Within an overall strategic framework of responding to emergencies, seeking solutions to pro-tracted displacement; and tackling root causes, DRC-DDG Afghanistan’s current programming encompasses: mine action, emergency response, protection, armed violence reduction, and livelihoods. With more than 500 fulltime national and international staff members, offices in Kabul, Jalalabad, Kandahar, Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif and a portfolio in 2016 of USD 13 million, DRC-DDG Afghanistan is one of the largest INGOs operating in Afghanistan.

 

About the job:

 

DDG seeks an energetic, creative and Communication and Reporting Officer to assist DDG in communication, documentation and reporting. She/he will work closely with all teams of DDG to document DDG’s activities and support in setting communication plans and addressing communication messages to different audiences and platforms including DDG’s monthly newsletters and briefs. This position will offer an excellent opportunity for the applicant to gain first-hand experience in a well-known international humanitarian mine action organization.  The Communication and Reporting Officer will be requested to travel to field operations to document ongoing activities, and therefore is expected to demonstrate interest in field work.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Draft and proofread monthly reports and briefs on DDG’s operations for website and publishing contents.
  • Support feedback to DDG’s global social media accounts of DDG’s operations
  • Setup local social media platforms
  • Design flyers, brochures, graphics and other visibility tools for major events
  • Collaborate with DRC-DDG staff on new ideas for enhancing the visibility and communication of DRC-DDG
  • Document case studies and success stories from the field with up to 25% of time spent in the field to visit and document DDG’s activities.
 
About you

 

To be successful in this role you must have:

 

Education

 

  • University degree in relevant discipline such as media and journalism, social sciences or others
  • Fresh graduates may be considered if they can demonstrate relevant skills and experience.
 
Experience and Qualification

 

  • At least three-year experience in similar capacities. Fresh graduates may be considered if they can demonstrate relevant skills and experience.
  • Well demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent command of English and Local language (Dari/Pashto) with excellent grammar
  • Experience and interest in photography and ability to take good professional photos is desired
  • Experience and familiarity with social media platforms
  • Previous experience in designing communication content will be a plus
  • Proficient usages of Microsoft office.
  • Good knowledge of graphic design programs (Autoshop, Adobe Suite and Illustrators or others), and design of infographics is a plus
  • Self-motivated and keen to collaborate with people with patience and multitasking skills.
  • Reliable and respects deadlines

 

Languages:

 

  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Fluent in spoken and written Dari and/or Pashtu

We offer:

 

  • DRC-DDG will offer the successful applicant a contract from 1 November 2017 till 31 October 2018.
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff. This position will be placed at salary Grade D, level 1, basic 745 USD.
