Unit Office of the General Counsel Closing date 12 November 2017 Reporting to General Counsel Vacancy code GCF/Recruit/230-231 The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their peoples.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate act ion and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low -emission and climate- resilient societies. It is country -driven and undertakes actions which reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national a spirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has mobilized 10.3 billion USD, accredited 54 entities to channel its resources and approved 43 funding proposals. In addition, it has bu ilt up an extensive program to support developing countries identify their needs, in particular those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts. The GCF’s diverse workforce is advancing its mission from its headquarters in South Korea. The Legal Counsel will be part of the Office of the General Counsel providing legal support to the entire Fund on operational matters, specifically on the drafting, reviewing and negotiating of financing agreements; condu cting legal due diligence in connection with funding proposals; and preparing legal advice on the interpretation of statutes, contracts and other legal documents.

Duties and responsibilities

• Review of funding proposals and legal documents required by the Fund for its operations, and e nsure they are coherent with best practice and the legal framework of the Fund; • Conduct and review due diligence in connection with the proposed funding structures; • Draft, review and negotiation of financing agreements and other legal documents required by the Fund for

its operations;

• Draft and negotiation of legal arrangements with accredited entities;

• Provide legal support to other divisions on matters relating to the operations of the Fund;

• Keep abreast of developments in the legal field especially in relation to multilateral finance; and

• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the General Counsel.

Expected experience and qualifications*

• Juris Doctor, LLB , or equivalent law degree, and qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction

(additional LLM degree is a plus);

• A minimum of nine (9) years of relevant work experience practicing law in cross -border transactions

involving debt and/or equity, of which at least five years at the international level (experience working with

an international organization is an advantage); and

• Experience in, or working with, developing countries;

• Willingness to assume multiple roles and tasks to meet changing business needs;

• Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills;

• Strong interpersonal skills, and highly developed cultural sensitivity in communicating with all levels of staff

and external clients, both orally and in writing;

• Good problem-solving aptitude and creativity; and

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of

another UN language an advantage.

*The person assessed by the Selection Panel as most suitable for the position will be proposed for appointment. The

above criteria should be se en as indicators of the experience and skills that would qualify candidates for

consideration. Selection among short -listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview,

appropriate testing, and references.
