About the job
The Protection Officer will be responsible for managing the implementation of protection activities in close collaboration with other DRC operational departments under the supervision of the Deputy Protection Manager or an Assigned Protection Officer.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Carry out daily monitoring visits, focus group discussions, participatory assessments, key informant interviews in accordance with DRC’s information collection and management plans and standards, ensuring appropriate treatment of sensitive information;
  • Assess individual protection issues captured or identified during daily activities and make appropriate referrals for services to humanitarian or other actors as per the referral pathway or best practices;
  • Identify cases in need of urgent response and directly follow-up/accompany affected individuals to services providers when needed to ensure access to services;
  • Work with supervisor to create weekly work-plans and prioritization of tasks;
  • Ensure targets are met under the approved work plans (includes responsibility for the achievement of work plans for protection assistants)
  • Ensure proper documentation and secure storage of any protection data collected (hard and soft copies);
  • Complete daily reporting on findings.
  • Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with all stake-holders, and participate in daily coordination with humanitarian and all other local and international actors;
  • With support and guidance from the Protection Manager; provide trainings and on-job coaching to protection assistants and other DRC personnel as required
  • Work with community-based structures to identify protection problems that cannot be resolved at community level or by existing services and assist community to come to solutions
  • Liaise closely with protection actors in the field and other humanitarian partners to ensure an understanding of the overall issues; an understanding that shall be used to guide weekly work plans

 

Reporting

  • Ensure daily reports are filled in and assist in compiling weekly reports on major findings, needs and challenges faced;
  • Propose new activities according to identified needs and suggest solutions for problems encountered within prevention activities.

 

About you

Required:

  • One of these three:
    • BSC in Law, Social work or closely related field
    • Degree in psychology, political science, development, international relations or other related fields with 3 years’ work experience
    • Post-secondary school qualification in Law, Social work or closely related field of study with 5 years experience
  • Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of refugee/client at all times;
  • Flexibility in working hours when needed;
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);
  • Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well ability to engage with community members in an open manner, maintain confidentiality and respect;
  • Ability to communicate in English, write reports in English and consolidate the reports prepared by protection monitoring assistants into formal English documentation
  • Ability to communicate in Bengali and Rohingya and write reports in Bengali.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings
  • Previous experience working with displaced other vulnerable populations;
  • Personal or work experience outside Bangladesh

Contract length: 3 months with possibility of extension dependent upon funding
