Director of Governance

Amnesty International brings people together to fight for human rights. Strong organisational leadership and governance is vital when it comes to the impact of our work at Amnesty. Joining us as Director of our Governance Programme, you'll be at the forefront of driving a stronger and more consistent leadership system and implement a revised governance arrangement.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you'll provide the Amnesty International Board, its committees and national boards with advice and support on standards and policies on good governance, and oversee the development and implementation of systems that will enhance the effectiveness of leadership and governance across the organisation. More than that, you'll be expected to regularly review and refine the standards and polices in place; strengthening local and international governance; and establishing this as an area of excellence within Amnesty. You will be responsible to implementing the ambitious governance reform that the Amnesty movement agreed in 2017.

ABOUT YOU

In a role of this scope, knowledge is exceptionally important. A true expert in organisational and leadership and governance, you'll have an excellent understanding of best practice in this field. Whether that means you're currently a member of senior management for another not-for-profit organisation, an academic specialising in organisational governance, or a lawyer specialising in corporate governance, you'll be politically astute with first rate communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels. You'll have a record of working with volunteer leadership in a dynamic organisation. As well as a proven record of analysing and reforming complex organisational systems, your leadership skills will be second to none - inspiring, motivating and guiding cross-cultural teams, generating trust and confidence at board level, and representing the organisation on a global level. But just as importantly, you'll relish the challenges you'll face and be genuinely passionate about making a difference.

ABOUT US

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We reach almost every country in the world and have:

One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.

At Amnesty International, we are passionate about what we do and we are proud of our achievements as a movement.
