UNOPS Thailand Operations Hub (THOH) is under the UNOPS Asia Regional Office and was established to better support, develop and oversee the UNOPS portfolio of projects in South East Asia and the Pacific. Located in Bangkok, Thailand, the Hub comprises two main offices –THOH Thailand and THOH Indonesia and its current portfolio spans HR transactional services, financial management services, procurement services and project implementation services currently being provided to a wide range of other UN entities, INGOs and Governments/Government agencies in South East Asia and the Pacific.  

THOH Thailand delivers HR Transactional services on behalf of Global clients. Through this service provision stream, THOH Thailand enhances the operational capacity of UNOPS to serve partners with large-scale and high volume HR services through need-driven corporate level project services. In support of, and to best serve client's needs, THOH Thailand has developed and utilizes standardized and unified systems and processes born of extensive experience that ensures the highest quality of services and cost-effectiveness for partners.

In the context of THOH’s ongoing operations in South East Asia and the Pacific, UNOPS is looking for a highly-motivated Programme Development Intern to support the business development efforts for the Hub. The Programme Development Intern will report to the Partnerships and Business Development Officer and will support the implementation of THOH’s partnership and business development strategy with specific focus on South East Asia and the Pacific. The incumbent will be liaising extensively with colleagues at THOH Thailand as well as relevant offices at UNOPS Asia Regional Office and UNOPS Headquarters. The incumbent will also be working very closely with UN Environment (UNEP) to develop joint UNOPS/UN Environment proposals on issues of REDD+, sustainable value chains, sustainable peatland management and other related areas. 

Functional Responsibilities

The main functions of the Programme Development Intern include:

  • Support the implementation of the newly designed THOH partnerships and business development strategy for Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and the Pacific countries.
  • Providing support to update the THOH Business Development strategy
  • Investigate economic conditions surrounding relevant business activities, for instance industry trends and competition
  • Conduct extensive market research into the life cycle of business ideas and projects
  • Provide support in identifying critical inputs for high level proposals and concept notes to be delivered to a wide range of funding partners
  • Provide support in writing concept notes and proposals, where appropriate, under the guidance of UNOPS and UN Environment
  • Provide support in preparing background materials for high level discussions with funding partners and with government counterparts
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • Minimum advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in project management, international relations, development studies, social science, engineering, environmental studies or related fields is required.  
  • Should be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in resource mobilization, marketing, research or business development is required
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Excellent research and drafting skills required.
  • Good time management skills.
Language:
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required.

  • Contract duration: 3 months, renewable up to maximum 12 months subject to performance and budget
