Summer Students 2018 (Member State Students)

Between 8 to 13 weeks the Summer Students work on a technical project and can attend a series of lectures (the 2018 timetable will be published in April) specially prepared for them. Visits to the CERN facilities are part of the Programme, as well as some hands-on workshops. A short report on the work project carried out is to be handed in at the end of the student's stay. 

Required Documents

Once your application has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation e-mail which contains a link to the CERN "Report on candidate" form. You must forward this link to at least one referee (preferably a professor). A new Report on Candidate must be uploaded for each committee. The report on candidate needs to be less than 12 months old at the deadline which is 28th January 2018.

Students must also upload their most recent official academic transcript (marks) and a CV (English or French) in order to complete their application.

• You are a national of a CERN Member State or Cyprus, India, Pakistan, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey or Ukraine. Students from Non-Member States are able to apply only if they have been residing in a Member State for the last 5 years and are currently enrolled in a Member State educational establishment.
• You have completed, by summer 2018, at least three years of full-time studies at university level.
• You will remain registered as a student during your stay at CERN. If you expect to graduate during summer 2018 (but not earlier than May 2018), you are also eligible to apply.
• You have not worked at CERN before with any other status (Technical Student, Trainee, User...) for more than 3 months.
• You have a good knowledge of English; knowledge of French would be an advantage

• A technical project
• 6 weeks Lecture Programme: 26th June - 3rd August (mornings)
• A living allowance to cover the expenses of a single person in the Geneva area: 90 CHF/day (the allowance is net of tax)
• A lump sum at the end of your stay to help pay towards the cost of your travel to/from Geneva (from/to your residence at the time of the selection committee).
• Membership of the Health Insurance scheme (contribution already deducted from allowance)
• We will assist you in finding accommodation on the CERN site or nearby.

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and have completed their application before the deadline will pass to the next step of the selection process. The final selection results will be communicated to the candidates by mid-April.

Pour une période de 8 à 13 semaines, les étudiants d'été travaillent sur un projet technique et peuvent suivre une série de cours particulièrement préparés pour eux. Des visites aux installations du CERN ainsi que des ateliers leurs sont proposés. A l'issue de leur stage, les étudiants rédigent un rapport de stage sur le projet entrepris.

Une fois votre candidature vérifiée par nos services, vous recevrez un courrier électronique que vous devrez faire suivre au moins à une personne de référence (préférable un professeur). Ce courrier contient un lien html vers le formulaire "Report on candidate".

Un nouveau rapport de candidature doit être téléchargé pour chaque comité. Le rapport doit daté de moins de 12 mois au 28 janvier 2018.

Les étudiants sont égalément tenus de télécharger leurs notes les plus récentes et leur CV (en anglais ou francais) afin de compléter leur candidature.

• Vous êtes ressortissant d'un des Etats Membres du CERN, ou de Chypre, de l'Inde, du Pakistan, de la Serbie, de la Slovenie, de la Turquie ou de l'Ukraine
• Vous avez accompli¿ avant l'été 2018 ¿ au moins trois ans d'études supérieures (universitaires).
• Vous garderez le statut d'étudiant durant votre période de stage au CERN. Les étudiant(e)s qui seront diplômé(e)s pendant l'été 2018 (à partir de mai) sont également admissibles.
• Vous n'avez jamais travaillé au CERN avec un autre statut (par ex. en tant que 'USER' ou stagiaire technique, stagiaire) pour une période supérieure a 3 mois.
• Vous avez une bonne connaissance de l'anglais et une connaissance du français serait un avantage.

• Un projet technique
• Une série de cours: 26 juin - 3 août (les matins)
• Une subsistance mensuelle couvrant les dépenses d'une personne célibataire dans la région genevoise: 90 CHF/jour (la subsistance est exemptée d'impôt)
• Une subsistance forfaitaire de voyage pour participer aux coûts de transport A/R depuis ou vers Genève (de/à votre lieu de résidence à la date du comité)
• Adhésion au régime d'assurance maladie du CERN (contribution déjà déduite de la subsistance)
• Nous aiderons à trouver un logement sur le site du CERN ou dans les alentours

Les candidats qui remplissent les critères d'éligibilité et qui ont envoyé leur candidature avant la date limite passeront à la prochaine étape du processus de séléction. Les résultats finaux seront communiqués aux candidats mi-avril au plus tard.
