Youth Advocacy and Activism Assistant

Reporting to: Youth Advocacy and Activism Advisor (Global Campaigns Team)
Responsible for: Supporting the engagement of young influencers as part of our global girls rights campaign.
Grade: 1/2
Based in: Woking/ London, UK

Workdays: Part time (negotiable)

Deliverables : Youth Advocacy and Activism Assistant

  1. Coordinate the development and implementation of the Young Influencers Group

  2. Support the Youth Advocacy and Activism Advisor to build a Young Influencers Group to advise on and influence for the new global girls’ rights campaign.

  3. Work with country and regional offices to identify the young influencers group and support in-country preparatory calls.

  4. Lead on logistics for in-person trainings and support facilitation of any workshops.

  5. Support the monitoring and evaluation of the young influencers group.

  6. Build a digital network for youth advocates and activists

  7. Research digital networking and activism approaches, platforms and techniques for movement building.

  8. Build and maintain a digital network for Plan International’s young influencer group (and broader) to connect, network, influence and socialise.

  9. Support with social media and digital influencing training for youth advocates during international events, in-person meetings and online.

  10. Support the Youth Advocacy and Activism Advisor with youth advocacy at global advocacy events.

  11. Ensure to a high standard that all of Plan International’s child protection and meaningful youth engagement principals and procedures are met.

  12. Deliver and own risk assessments, draft proposals for youth advocacy at each event, support the logistical preparation (flights, visas, hotels) and hold CP briefings for young people.

  13. Ensure all child protection documentation is in place and up to date throughout project and particularly during events.

  14. Work with the Youth Advocacy and Activism Advisor to deliver preparatory program for youth advocates so that their engagement is meaningful, effective and safe.

  15. Brief chaperones ensuring they have the support and understanding they need to conduct their roles to the highest possible level.


  • Experience of supporting and/or undertaking youth advocacy and activism at the national and/or international levels.

  • Knowledge of digital activism, youth movements, activism and campaigning techniques for movement building.

  • Ability to manage a heavy and varied workload effectively, including managing competing demands and to maintain high levels of both accuracy and output.

  • Demonstrated commitment to young feminist advocacy and activism, girls’ rights and youth issues.

  • Demonstrated commitment to meaningful youth participation

  • Understanding of the child protection risks and protocols required for effective child and youth participation

  • Knowledge and experience of wellbeing and self-care approaches and techniques hugely desirable.

  • University degree or related experience in human rights, international development, community development, child and youth participation, gender, social sciences or a related field.

  • Based in London/Woking with some international travel

  • Fluency/proficiency in French and/or Spanish is desirable.
