United Nations University institute for Water, environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) are working to support national governments to accelerate progress on Sustainable Development Goal 6 – the ‘water goal’. UNU-INWEH are promoting an evidence-based approach towards policy- and decision- making and are encouraging national governments to use UNU-INWEH’s innovative frameworks to make this happen.
The key product of the ‘water-related Sustainable Development Goals’ initiative is the SDG Policy Support System (SDG PSS). The SDG PSS is being trialed in 5 countries – Ghana, Tunisia, Costa Rica, Pakistan and the Republic of Korea - in 2017 (see http://inweh.unu.edu/sdg-policy-support-system/ ) as an excel product.
In 2018, UNU-INWEH will explore how to make the SDG PSS into a dynamic, easy-to-use online system that can be freely used by national government stakeholders across the world.
UNU-INWEH require an intern to support this work and to link it to other emerging UNU interests and projects.
Intern Responsibilities:
Support the development of a plan to translate the current excel-based system into a dynamic online application by-
Exploring similar, currently available online systems and from this, recommending ways forward for the SDG PSS;
Liaising with design and programming consultants to assist in creating management documents, including a scoping paper and budget, for the task;
Assist staff to develop written products of the initiative and the SDG PSS, including a discussion paper and an analytical report 3. Investigating ways to improve the SDG PSS as it moves online.
Internship Requirements:

- A third or fourth year undergraduate student or a postgraduate student or degree holder
Position Requirements:
- Excellent experience with online and web-based projects
- Considerable experience using Excel
- Fluency in English and excellent writing skills
- Good interpersonal skills
Position Desirables:
- An understanding of water management concepts and the Sustainable Development Goals
- Knowledge of French and/or Spanish
Duration and Start Date:
The duration of internship is at least 3 months, which may be extended to 6 months depending on the need and work progress. The internship is expected to start at a mutually agreed date in January 2018.
