Place in the Organisation

Is responsible to the Medical Officer in-charge of the health centre and to the Sanitation Inspector in Jordan, to the Camp Sanitation Officer in Gaza; and to the Area Sanitation Officer in other Fields for technical matters and to the Camp Services Officer (except Gaza)• for administrative matters.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, he is responsible for executing and supervising the environmental health activities in a camp or sector of camp assigned to him; in particular:

•        Supervises sanitation and other Laborers, maintains and controls their attendance and leave, and prepares statistical and narrative reports.

•        Supervises water distribution, maintenance water networks, water disinfection and collects water samples for bacteriological examination.

•        Supervises liquid and solid water collection, loading and removal and maintenance of sewers and drains, directs refuse vehicles

•        Inspects gathering surfaces and breeding places of insects, carries out necessary surveys and supervises insect and rodent control activities.

•        Inspects and reports on cleanliness in camp and its installations.

•        Assists in health education for Foremen laborers and camp inhabitants.

•        Receives, keeps and controls sanitation tools, supplies and equipment.

•        Supervises sanitation self-help camp improvements projects.

•        Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

•        Completion of full secondary education.

•        Two years' experience in environmental health/public health.

•        Good knowledge of spoken and written Arabic.

Other Requirements

•     Leadership, physical fitness to work in all weather conditions and walk extensively is essential.

•     Should be capable of maintaining and developing good relations with the camp inhabitants.

•Desirable Qualifications

•      Two-year course in environmental health/public health from a recognized college or institute.

Equivalency

When the minimum requirements are not fully met, Field Director for Field Area staff and Director of Human Resources for Headquarters Area staff, in consultation with the concerned supervisor may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.

NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
