OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The main objective of the programme is to ensure that every child and high risk group is fully vaccinated with high quality and effective vaccines against the target diseases according to recommended strategies.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the WHO National Professional Officer/Surveillance and general guidance of the WHO Representative.Description of Duties\:To monitor the progress of the provinces in maintaining polio free status.To conduct epidemiological investigation together with the Provincial EPI Manager and Provincial Surveillance Officers for special reported conditions like suspected measles and neonatal tetanus cases.To collate priority EPI disease notifications from assigned provinces and to analyse data on monthly basisTo visit the active surveillance sites on a regular basis concentrating on poor performing districts/sub-districts within the provinces.To liaise closely with EPI Managers, meeting with them at least monthly and prepare/submit reports.To regularly liaise with the provincial Communicable Diseases Coordinators and health informationco-ordinators on EPI priority disease surveillance.To assist the provinces with providing the relevant training and sensitizing to strengthen the capacity in EPI activities.Performs any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Secondary School Diploma
Desirable\: Postgraduate qualification in Public Health (MPH) will be an added advantageUniversity Degree/Diploma in Nursing or other Health related field from a recognized institutionRegistration with the relevant Health Professional Council required

Experience

Essential\: At least10 - 15years experience performing duties in nursing, midwifery, EPI or other health service delivery areas.
Desirable\: Vaccine preventable diseases, surveillance, epidemiology or statistics.

Skills

Epidemiology & Statistics, Nursing, basic concepts in disease control.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at ZAR 358,829 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
