OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The AMR Secretariat is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Global Action Plan on AMR

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

- Develop models to assess impact of AMR on human health through collaboration with partners within and outside WHO.

- Develop innovative surveillance strategies and information technology (IT) surveillance databases using models to assess impact of AMR on human health that will ensure and facilitate the participation of surveillance sites from all regions.

- Establish sentinel sites, including the application of surveillance IT tools in all regions to conduct special surveillance studies to assess impact of AMR on human health.

- Develop proof of principle protocols to test implementation of AMR surveillance and inform sustainable implementation of AMR surveillance in limited resource settings.

- Support the establishment of sentinel surveillance sites, including the application of innovative IT tools in limited resource settings to inform investment needs for sustainable implementation of AMR surveillance in limited resource settings.

- Manage AMR surveillance sites database and data management system, as well as associated databases, including the annual cycle of collection, uploading, validation, storage, extraction, analysis, reporting and dissemination of data.

- Collaborate closely with counterparts across WHO, the AMR Secretariat, Regional Office, and external partners to facilitate the AMR surveillance data management system meets the minimum quality and security standards expected by WHO members states and partners, and is compatible with (and, where applicable, integrated with) other systems (such as the Global Health Observatory) being developed, supported and promoted within WHO.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\:

- Advanced level university degree (Masters level or above) in public health, medicine or related field.

- Specialization or training in computer science or related information technology systems for database development, management and reporting.
Desirable\:

- Post-graduate training with focus on infectious disease surveillance.

- Qualification in public health.

Experience

Essential\:

- At least 7 years of combined national and international experience at a senior managerial or scientific level in major programmes or activities related to epidemiology, or public health in the area of control of infectious diseases.

- Experience in creating and managing IT databases.

- Proven experience in the field of surveillance of infectious diseases.
Desirable\:

- Proven experience in assessing impact of infectious diseases on human health.

- Experience in use of evidence for development of guidelines and policy.

- Experience in low and/or middle income countries (as per World Bank classification).

- Documented experience of development of research projects, programmes and policies.

Skills

- Sound knowledge of assessment of burden of disease

- Sound knowledge of epidemiology and communicable diseases control, including study design, data collection and analysis.

- Strong IT knowledge and skills in the area of data management and creation of databases

- An understanding of antimicrobial resistance and its impact on human health.

- An understanding of international public health.

- Excellent communication and presentation skills.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 70,647 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5022 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
