The Statistics Officer, Child Protection and Development will work within the Data Analysis Unit to support the statistical, monitoring and reporting work in the areas of Child Protection, ECO, and Child Disability. The primary function of the Statistics Officer is to maintain global databases of indicators, analyze and compile data, support the development of new tools for data collection/analysis/dissemination, and more broadly, support the monitoring of, and reporting on, the situation of children and women. The work focuses on Child Protection and Development measurement and monitoring.

D&A is located within the Division of Data, Research and Policy (DRP) at UNICEF's New York headquarters. D&A is the hub of UNICEF's technical guidance, quality assurance and technical data architecture for programme work on data across the organization. D&A provides leadership, strategic and normative guidance and technical support to UNICEF's work on generating evidence on the situation of children by supporting the collection, analysis, understanding and use of robust data and statistics, programme data, data science, big data analytics and data literacy.

How can you make a difference? 

The Statistics Officer, Child Protection and Development will work within the Data Analysis Unit to support the statistical, monitoring and reporting work in the areas of Child Protection, ECO, and Child Disability.

The primary function of the Statistics Officer is to maintain global databases of indicators, analyze and compile data, support the development of new tools for data collection/analysis/dissemination, and more broadly, support the monitoring of, and reporting on, the situation of children and women. The work focuses on Child Protection and Development measurement and monitoring.

This will involve:

1. Data collection, compilation, analysis and quality assurance

2. Methodological development and interagency partnerships/working groups

3. Further analysis

4. Data dissemination and advocacy

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

  • An university degree (Master’s or higher) in demography, public health, social sciences, epidemiology or statistics.   
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience at the national or international levels in statistical data processing, data analysis, and development/maintenance of statistical databases.
  • Proven experience analyzing, compiling and presenting data, with a focus on Child Protection and Development-related areas.
  • Proven experience in data analysis and writing to disseminate key data and findings to technical and non-technical audiences, particularly related to Child Protection and Development.
  • Proven experience in working with STATA or SPSS
  • Proven experience in working with data from household surveys in particular DHS and MICS   
  • Proven experience in conducting extensive literature reviews and summarizing findings
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
