Purpose of the post


ICRC Information Analyst for private sector relations

The main purpose of this Information Analyst position is to provide ICRC colleagues with valuable insight on humanitarian funding trends, private sector’s responsibilities with regard to international humanitarian law, challenges and opportunities linked to collaboration and partnership over innovative projects, based on information available across a wide range of open sources.

The ICRC is facing enormous growth in terms of operational needs and the funding required to finance its activities. This year’s field and headquarters budget stands at 1.8 billion Swiss francs.

Considering the increasing scale and complex nature of crises today, the ICRC recognizes the need to develop further collaborations with private sector actors.

In this context, the aim of this position is to help ICRC Resource Mobilisation Division, Public Communication colleagues and  top leadership better strategize and engage with private sector’s actors.

The position-holder is a member of the Research and Analysis team and reports to the Head of the Unit. S/he also works in close consultation and collaboration with the other Information Analyst for Resource Mobilization.

Main responsibilities

Conduct independent research, analyze, evaluate, and integrate data and insights from open sources of information to produce assessments and recommendations to facilitate decision making

Understand the operating environment of the decision makers and anticipate how the decision maker is likely to approach a reputational issue in order to generate the most appropriate, timely and relevant insight

Conduct media research using specified tools, including proprietary databases and public domain sources

Liaise with external due diligence providers on specific assignments

Extract insight and analysis from sources publicly available and synthesize the information into actionable reports

Share analysis of humanitarian financing trends and policies.

More specifically, the position-holder will:

  • Respond to information needs expressed by internal end-users by:
    • carrying out in-depth research and analysis (quantitative and qualitative);
    • drafting  background checks, ethical and reputational screening;
    • consulting with colleagues and integrating internal knowledge and
    • monitoring debates on the private sector’s role in humanitarian response;
  • Adapt content and format to users’ needs and consumption;

Coordination across services

When necessary, leverage efforts across the ICRC to better use external information for fundraising and ethical screening purposes.

Training and experience required

University degree or postgraduate studies with a specialization in information sciences, social sciences, and business administration or Corporate Social Responsibility studies preferred;

3 years of experience in screening and analyzing open sources of information to support decision making;

2 years of due diligence review or reputational screening or business ethical standards including concepts, research, evaluation, and integration of all-source data;

Significant experience in reputational or operational risk management with a focus on identification of key risk factors and development of mitigation responses;

Prior experience with a global environmental scanning or research set up an asset;

Awareness of reputational/ethical needs of humanitarian organisations an asset.

Profile and skills

Fluency in English and good command of French required

Ability to work in other languages (ie. German) an asset

Genuine interest in neutral humanitarian actions;

Excellent web-based research skills, using social media applications, automated alerts, real time monitoring tools and various search engines;

Strong research and synthesis skills, including assessing relevancy of online information and authenticating/ranking content as well as sources;

Ability to analyse and articulate complex issues and concepts and formulate recommendations based on available information;

Excellent methodological skills (quantitative and qualitative);

Commitment to open, transparent, reproducible research;

Strong social skills, a people person;

Strong organizational skills and sense of priorities;

Ability to work with a high level of autonomy but also as part of a team;

Ability to work under pressure and to respect tight deadlines (resilient to stress);

Flexibility to support the TRAK team of analysts in crisis and emergency situations.
