 PURPOSE:

To provide technical support and inputs for advocacy, communication and social mobilization for effective planning and implementation of Health programmes

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work in close collaboration with governmental health authorities and other partners to support the development of an advocacy, communication and social mobilization strategy and plan for health programmes.

  • Facilitate the implementation of evidence driven communication plans of action aiming at: (a) behaviors development/change at the individual/household levels; (b) mobilization of community leaders, influentials and civil society organizations; and (c) increase community participation in the health programmes.
  • Lead the development of situation specific, needs based work plans for the communication activities for Health, monitor compliance and provide support and guidance to ensure that objectives of the plans are met. This includes performance planning, monitoring and appraisal.
  • Provide technical support to health and communication staff in Field offices to ensure that communication strategies & plans are in place at district/village level. Plans must address the appropriate challenges based on analysis of routine, outreach, campaign and surveillance data.
  • Develop partnership with individuals, groups and organizations whose support is essential to ensuring support for immunization and other health programmes, particularly achieving advocacy and communication objectives with focus on strengthening their capacity through appropriate advocacy and communication training, access to updated information, supplies and equipment and through experience sharing.
  • Monitor implementation of communication activities for Health and other relevant issues by reviewing progress and identifying constraints through field visits, consultation with government counterparts, partner, community and other sectors within UNICEF.
  • Responsible for producing a monthly progress report which will be shared with the governorate and national level team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*

First University degree or its equivalent in the social/behavioral sciences e.g. Communication for development, Public Health, Health Education, Sociology, Anthropology or related field.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years work experience in communication for development, health promotion, public information, community development, social research. Strong facilitation skills and knowledge in development of training modules and materials in interpersonal communication, counselling and negotiation skills.

Previous working experience with the UN or other international organizations highly advantageous

Language: Fluency in English and Arabic (both written and verbal) is required

 CONDITIONS OF WORK: DUTY STATION AND TRAVEL

This temporary position is based in Sana'a at the UNICEF Yemen Country Officer with regular travel to field offices. The incumbent will work from UNICEF Sana'a office to facilitate his/her access to all programme sites.
