Who are we?

 

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading global displacement agency working in 40 countries, in conjunction with our specialist mine action unit, Danish Demining Group (DDG), which has been working in Afghanistan since 1999. DRC commenced operations in Afghanistan in 2011 and is today a leading actor in humanitarian response with membership of the Humanitarian Country Team and recent high-level representation at the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan. DRC-DDG Afghanistan is part of DRC’s Central & South-West Asia (CASWA) region covering Afghanistan, Iran and Paki-stan. Within an overall strategic framework of responding to emergencies, seeking solutions to pro-tracted displacement; and tackling root causes, DRC-DDG Afghanistan’s current programming encompasses: mine action, emergency response, protection, armed violence reduction, and livelihoods. With more than 500 fulltime national and international staff members, offices in Kabul, Jalalabad, Kandahar, Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif and a portfolio in 2016 of USD 13 million, DRC-DDG Afghanistan is one of the largest INGOs operating in Afghanistan.

 

About the job:

 

The main responsibility of this position is raise awareness of the DRC-DDG Community Information Multi-Service centres (CIMS) and mobilise the communities to access the services provided at the CIMS. The Community Outreach Mobilisers will be the main channel for communication between DRC-DDG and the IDP/returnee communities.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Daily Protection monitoring and referral of identified protection cases for resolution.
  • Information dissemination - outreach workers will serve as main channel of communication and information sharing between DRC-DDG and the IDP/returnee population, ensuring that all IDPs/returnees, regardless of literacy and language skills, can access information and services.
  • Participate in awareness raising campaigns.
  • Ensure community mobilization as necessary for different activities such as establishing community protection committees, meetings and focus group discussions, events, etc.
  • Assist in organizing events.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting surveys, assessments, and focus group discussions.
  • Establish relationship with the IDP community, inform and advise them on services and assistance available from DRC-DDG and other service providers.
  • Identify new arrivals in the communities and their urgent needs.
  • Report any identify gaps in service provision.
  • Follow up on community activities to ensure full participation of women, vulnerable individuals and the youth.
  • In case of identification of vulnerable individuals and persons with specific needs that are not already being addressed by relevant organisations, report and follow up on relevant service provision for these individuals.
  • Provide assistance with registration and distributions in the communities when necessary.
  • In case of identification of unaccompanied minors or elderly or disabled, take full note of their details and report to the Protection Officer for referral to relevant agency.
  • Report abuses and rights violations that may take place in the communities for referral to relevant agencies.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with DRC CIMS Team Leader and report on any issues encountered.
  • Respect the principle of confidentiality and do no harm at all times.
  • Other duties assigned by the CIMS Team Leader.

 

About you

 

To be successful in this role you must have:

 

Education and Qualification:

 

  • Strong organisational skills and methodological record keeping
  • Remains productive when under pressure and meets deadlines
  • Good understanding of core computer programs such as MS Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to speak and write in both Dari and Pashto
  • Ability to communicate in written English
 
 
 Experience:

At least 1 years working experience in a similar position working with an International NGO

 

Languages:

 

Fluency in Dari and Pashto
Good knowledge of English

We offer:

 

  • DRC will offer the successful applicant contract till the end of 2017, renewable dependent on both funding and performance.
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment for national staff. This position will be placed at salary Grade D, level 1, basic 480 USD.
