The Visual Interaction Designer will design and build a new global UNICEF intranet in SharePoint Online. The designer will provide design support and expertise in the Digital Workplace Project interface design and implementation, including but not limited to site branding, user scenarios, wireframes, graphic user interfaces, interactive mockups, and providing specifications for implementation. Duration of the contract is for a period of 5 months.

Background

For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. Enterprise Content Management (ECM) project’s goal is to take a systemic approach that introduces and institutionalizes Electronic Content Management (including systems, policies, procedures, standards, guidance, and governance), providing improved search functionality, document and records management, archives management, content management, content reuse and repurposing, and collaboration across UNICEF. As additional benefit it seeks to reduce risks, improve usability of tools, provide significant savings, enable new organizational capabilities and comply with several audit recommendations. These goals will be implemented in keeping with the organizational strategy and information management requirements of stakeholders in various business areas.

The UNICEF Strategic Plan (2018-2021) sets out enablers supporting the delivery of our results and change strategies. A Digital Workplace project was created to enhance knowledge and information systems for programme results and organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

Purpose of the Assignment

The Visual Interaction Designer will design and build a new global UNICEF intranet in SharePoint Online. The designer will provide design support and expertise in the Digital Workplace Project interface design and implementation, including but not limited to site branding, user scenarios, wire-frames, graphic user interfaces, interactive mock-ups, and providing specifications for implementation.

UNICEF seeks a candidate with background in Graphic Design, User Interface Design in the MS O365 and SharePoint Online platform. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, organized and a passionate designer, who can work with a diverse team to deliver within a time-frame. Must have a strong sense of UNICEF’s goals and programs and worked with international organizations and agile teams

Our Digital Workplace is built on Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint Online and related cloud based services for collaboration. Using an agile development approach and user-centered design process, the Visual Interface Designer will take business requirements through a complete design, prototype, test and deployment cycle. Deployed functionality will be grouped into releases and sprints through design iterations.

This consultancy will be for a period of 5 months.

Reporting Structure

The incumbent will report to the Senior Project Manager – ECM under the direction of the Digital Workplace Project Manager.

Work Location

The position is based in New York City, USA. All-in daily rates should account for the cost of living, travel to and from the local duty station, insurance and related costs. Official travel away from the duty office, when required, will be organized by UNICEF directly.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Digital Workplace Team to create wireframes, graphical user interfaces and interactive prototypes and define specifications for implementation.
  • Create style guides according to UNICEF Branding and compatible with MS O365, SharePoint Online, and Share Point Out of the Box capabilities
  • Share UI specifications with the development teams.
  • Test the wireframes, navigation flows through user feedback (heuristic evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs etc..), iterate and deliver interactive prototypes for development.
  • Build design iterations through stakeholder and user inputs.

Expected Deliverables

  • User Scenarios, Wireframes, Graphic User Interfaces Designs, Navigation workflows, interactive prototypes and specifications for development of web pages.
  • Design specifications compatible with the SharePoint and O365 capabilities, and usability guidelines for responsive environments (web, mobile, tablet etc.)
  • Documented design decisions and user feedback.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Information Systems Design, Graphic Design, User Interface Design, Human Computer Interaction; First degree is acceptable with 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in either of the following areas: A: Designing websites with focus on user-centric design; Work must exhibit design process - Personas, Wireframes, Interactive Mockups and Prototypes to design interfaces.
  • Experience in designing and building intranet pages in SharePoint Online.
  • A portfolio which exemplifies strong work for both web, mobile and native applications with a strong design process and attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team within large organizations.
  • Experience working in Agile approach.

Languages:

For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.

Evaluation method

Each applicant will be evaluated based on the cumulative analysis methodology (weighted scoring method), where the award of the contract will be made to the individual consultant or vendor whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:

  • Responsive/compliant/acceptable; and
  • Having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of technical skills and financial proposal specific to the solicitation.
