Context and Purpose of the Job

 The PMCD Section of the Division of Human Resources (DHR) is launching the Career Development Programme in 2018 to support UNICEF Global staff in effectively managing their careers. The Career Development Programme will include various career support initiatives based on staff needs.

Details of the Consultancy

Title:  HR Career Development Consultant

Section:  Performance Management and Career Development (PMCD), DHR

Duration:  6 months

Type of Contract:  Individual SSA

Supervisor(s):  HR Manager - Career Development, PMCD, DHR

Location:  UNICEF NYHQ office-based consultancy (work done on premises on a daily basis). No travel applies.

  Key Accountabilities and Duties & Tasks

 

Under the overall guidance of the HR Manager & Career Development, PMCD, the consultant will undertake, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

  1. Career Development Programme Launch
  • Design and develop the career development webpage on SharePoint in collaboration with the SharePoint Focal Point by January 2018
  • Create dedicated pages on the career development webpage for specific career development initiatives by February 2018 (e.g. career coaching programme, career management workshops, career self-assessment tools, online learning programmes)
  • Create a function on the career development webpage to ensure that requests for career coaching can be managed and administered on the platform by February 2018
  • Develop a database to document participation/attendance in career development related initiatives by February 2018
  • Design and develop a series of videos on success stories on how staff members manage their career within the organization by March 2018
  • Assist in the design and development of resources to support staff members in preparing for interviews/writing job applications by April 2018
  • Identify relevant career development resources and publications and make them available on the career development webpage by May 2018
  • Create documents and guidelines on how to maintain the career development webpage/resources by May 2018

 The incumbent will perform other career development related tasks as required 

Education, Qualifications and Requirements of Successful Candidate

a) Education

  • University degree in Human Resources Management, Education, Business Administration, International Relations or a relevant field. 
  • The individual should be highly proficient in a range of PC/web applications, including but not limited to: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and SharePoint.

b) Work experience

  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in project management with sound knowledge in human resources, career development/career coaching; and related areas.
  • Expertise in communication, customer orientation, and excellent understanding of career development programmes and training materials.
  • Expertise in designing and developing learning materials/resources/guidelines.
  • It is preferable that the individual has experience with, or in, multilateral institutions. 
  • Knowledge of UN common practices in HR an added advantage.

c) Competencies

  • Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Effectively presents thoughts and ideas, including complex technical concepts, in a clear, concise and readily understood manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in other UN languages desirable.
  • Ability to identify issues, formulate opinions, make conclusions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and meeting results.
  • Good judgment, initiative, high sense of responsibility, tact, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Works effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapts to changing demands and circumstances.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to establish harmonious working relations in a multicultural environment.
