Working for the Division of Performance Management and Organizational Development (PMOD), the consultant will support a range of career development, performance management and coaching programmes for UNICEF staff, including specialized populations like our senior SSR leaders, NETI/JPOs, staff on abolished posts, but also broadly to UNICEF staff members at all levels and divisional areas.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:  identifying specific areas for growth, 360 debriefs, general coaching, creating goals that are mutually agreed upon and measurable, outlining next steps (timeline and resources), reviewing written applications, conducting mock interviews, and guiding staff members through job search/career transitions.

 

The project(s) will involve a combination of the following, based on consultant background and needs expressed by UNICEF staff and HR focal points for each of the respective areas noted above:

 

Counselling/coaching sessions:

Counselling/coaching session:

  1. Develop a plan for communication with each staff member (Skype, phone, etc), introducing themselves, sending any pre-coaching material if necessary, and determining how the time will be best spent with each individual to meet the targeted need/purpose of each session.
  2. Executing at least one hour of coaching, which should be used towards mutually agreed upon goals.
  3. Following up, as appropriate, after one session, to measure progress, steps take, where the staff member is, to ensure that the individual is taking action. 
  4. Preparing and submitting a final, short report, in agreed upon template, to DHR/PMOD detailing the number of individuals served, names/level, nature of each session, and any relevant trends observed, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.  This report would be due upon completion of any trip, and/or on a monthly basis.

 

Workshops:

  1. Design of HR Learning Programmes/Materials: Projects may be related to various areas of HR, such as HR Capacity Building/Recruitment and Selection, Performance Management, Organizational Development and Career Development. Design work responsibilities may include, but are not limited to attending team meetings, reports, coordination and follow-up.

 

2) International Travel: Consultants may be requested to travel internationally to UNICEF Country or Regional Offices for group training workshops on career development, performance management, team building or meeting facilitation, and ToT (Training of Trainer), and conduct 1:1 career counseling/coaching sessions, depending on the nature of the mission.  For missions/trips to deliver workshops and/or 1:1 sessions, a final trip report will be requested, in a mutually agreed upon template.

 

Deliverables:

Coordinating with DHR/PMOD on timeframe and strategy, the individual will:

 

  • Provide staff members with individual sessions (phone, in person, or Skype) for career counseling, 360 debriefs, general and/or performance coaching, as per guidelines above.
  • Coordinate effective communication to understand individual needs prior to and post individual counselling/coaching sessions  and/or training missions
  • Review applications and/or resumes, PHPs, provide interview support, guide staff members through job search process and an agreed upon action plan.
  • Travel to deliver face to face workshop sessions for career development, performance management, meeting/team facilitation, and ToT (Training of Trainer) workshops across various UNICEF offices globally (upon request)
  • Design presentation slides, workbooks and/or short user guides to accompany group training workshops, if/when necessary
  • Submission of monthly invoice and/or detailed trip report, as described above to DHR/PMOD.
