Under the general supervision of the Finance/Accounts Specialist, this post is responsible for timely and accurate recording and analysis of accounting transactions related to private sector fundraising. The post holder is also responsible for designing and monitoring financial handling and interpretations related to Investment Funds, reporting on Investment Funds spending, performing initial analyses of return on investments and following up with National Committees and country offices where necessary to ensure complete, accurate, and timely reporting.

PFP Financial Services Unit, part of PFP Finance is responsible for overseeing the complete, accurate and timely recording of accounting transactions related to private sector fundraising activities. An important part of these activities relates to Investment Funds which are used to maximize the unrestricted revenue generated for children from private sector donors. The Investment Funds are disbursed to UNICEF National Committees and country offices that have structured private sector fundraising operations.

The position is placed in the National Committees and country offices Financial Reporting Team of the PFP Finance section and supervised by Finance/Accounts Specialist.

Under the general supervision of the Finance/Accounts Specialist, this post is responsible for timely and accurate recording and analysis of accounting transactions related to private sector fundraising. The post holder is also responsible for designing and monitoring financial handling and interpretations related to Investment Funds, reporting on Investment Funds spending, performing initial analyses of return on investments and following up with National Committees and country offices where necessary to ensure complete, accurate, and timely reporting.


How can you make a difference?

  1. Timely and accurate recording of accounting transactions related to the Investment Funds.
  2. Monitor Investment Funds prepayments and liquidate them based on the progress reports.
  3. Reconcile Investment Funds expenses in UNICEF financial system with the quarterly expenditure reports submitted by National Committees.
  4. Provide guidelines and propose simplifications for National Committees financial reporting and analysis.
  5. Recommend improvements to systems and processes that will enhance the internal control environment.
  6. Support financial reporting and analysis of the private sector fundraising.
  7. Perform ad-hoc accounting tasks under the guidance of the Finance/Accounts Specialist.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Advanced university degree (master’s) in Business Management, Finance Management or equivalent. Certification by a recognized professional accountancy body (Certified Public or Chartered Accountant) mandatory.

Proficient in the use of standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Minimum of two years of finance and accounting work experience with emphasis on data analysis.

Experience of Management Information Systems applications, especially in ERP (SAP in particular) will be desirable.

Relevant international working experience mandatory.

English – Proficiency is required. Working knowledge of other UN language (ideally Spanish) would be an asset.
