DCA is looking for an energetic and experienced Area Manager to lead its humanitarian response programme in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
DanChurchAid (DCA) is a Danish humanitarian, non-government and non-profit organisation founded in 1921. We work for the poor, vulnerable and socially excluded communities and believe in life before death. Our everyday work with development and relief aid strives to help the oppressed, neglected and marginalized groups in our focus countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa to strengthen their possibilities of a life in dignity. In Bangladesh, we are involved in several thematic areas with our work focusing on resilient livelihoods/economic empowerment and humanitarian relief and DRR. In response to the Rohingya crisis, DCA is establishing a new sub-office that will provide humanitarian assistance.
You will be responsible for leading the overall planning, implementation and management as well as the achievement of the goals and objectives of the existing projects in a timely and cost-effective manner with adherence to technical quality standards and donor guidelines. In addition, you will be leading fundraising efforts such as liaising with donors and writing concept notes and proposals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead DCA staff. This includes building an effective team through result-oriented management systems, providing leadership and on-the-job capacity building
  • Ensure effective and high quality implementation of the DCA projects
  • Maintain and develop relations with local authorities, UN, donors and other relevant stakeholders
  • Participate actively in coordination and cluster meetings and represent DCA
  • Lead and contribute to fundraising initiatives
  • Ensure timely information flows and reporting to the DCA management in Dhaka and Kathmandu, Nepal

Qualifications

  • At least five years of previous work experience in a high management position
  • University degree with advanced training/courses either in management, international relations, development studies, or other related field
  • Extensive project management experience (management, planning, staff development and training skills) in emergency and/or development programmes
  • Experience in GBV/PSS, DRR and cash-based programming a plus
  • Practical and extensive financial, HR, and administration management experience
  • Excellent skills in written and spoken English
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, and flexibility in cultural and organisational terms
  • Experience with funding from ECHO, DfID, Danida, BPRM will be essential
  • Knowledge of local language and/or regional experience will be an added advantage
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in setting like Cox’s Bazar

Expected starting date is as soon as possible and no later than January 1st. The contract is for 6 months with the possibility of extension dependent on available funding.

Terms and conditions are as per the DCA Handbook for Non-Family duty stations. The salary including pension is between USD 6.600 and 7.200 plus housing and international insurance.
