We are looking for a highly qualified Legal Awareness and Protection Officer will be responsible for providing legal awareness to target populations on the formal integration of refugees into the labor market as well assisting in the management of protection cases as identified. In addition, this individual will be responsible for assisting the livelihood team in Irbid conduct beneficiary intake and livelihood referrals. And will be responsible for ensuring GIZ’s CfW programming is implemented in a manner that complies with international standards and best practices.

DRC is an international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. With the vision that no displaced person must be in want of help to find protection and durable solutions, DRC provides assistance and protection to conflict-affected in many of the major conflicts in Asia, Africa and Middle East. The assistance can consist of relief and other humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and support to returning home, and the promotion of durable solutions. 
 
 
About the Job 
 
In Irbid and Jarash Governorates, DRC is currently implementing a three months project as a part of a nation-wide initiatives funded by GIZ which aims to contribute to improve the self-reliance capacities of vulnerable Syrian refugee and Jordanian populations; by improving green infrastructure in Jordan through Labor-intensive measures. This will include.  
 
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
 
• Support the Protection Unit in ensuring that protection is mainstreamed into DRC projects implemented in Irbid / Jarash with international standards and relevant DRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 
• Keep project manager and Protection Unit appraised of gaps and problems in protection programming and issues for internal improvement, advocacy or take-up with other agencies. 
• Collect all complaints (verbally and in written format) from individuals engaged in CfW programming and/ or have received job referrals by DRC, including complaints around work conditions and contractual matters (when relevant), etc.; 
• Ensure efficient referral of complaints to the responsible party, such as GIZ and/or the municipality and follow up in a timely manner to ensure appropriate actions are taken; 
• Where cases with protection and other service needs are identified, ensure timely referral, documentation and follow up, as per DRC standards for referrals and data protection. 
• Provide protection sensitization sessions to employers or potential employers identified through DRC Livelihoods activities. 
• Assist the Protection Unit with establishing safe referral pathways with key stakeholders to refer protection cases to those partners.  
• Assist in facilitating information assistance sessions on issues including work rights and Jordanian labor law.  
• Contribute and support effective monitoring, evaluation and learning processes and initiatives, ensure effective data and information management and contribute to regular reporting on protection and livelihood activities. 
• Assist in the development and roll out of a livelihood referral in-take form to assess beneficiary profile, needs, and employment eligibility;  
• Provide one-on-one support to community center beneficiaries to identify appropriate referral pathway;  
• Contribute to the development of a livelihood referral system in coordination with the Livelihood Officer, including the identification of various job opportunities and training services available to Syrian refugees and Jordanians in Irbid and Jarash;
 
 
 
About you 
 
To be successful in this role you must have:  
 
Qualifications/ experience:  
• Bachelor’s degree in human rights, law, social work or any related field; 
• At least 1-3 years protection experience in a humanitarian and/or development sector; 
• Experience working with local organizations and local communities; 
• Understanding of socio-economic conditions and legal status of Syrian refugee populations is a must; 
• Experience working on sensitive protection activities that require discretion and adherence to data protection protocols; 
• Strong knowledge of protection related needs, services and challenges; 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to establish reports; 
• Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals; 
• Ability to work effectively and constructively as an integral part of multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and to work with a wide range of government and community counterparts, and other actors;  
• Demonstrated commitment to serving vulnerable individuals with respect, patience and understanding;  
• Desire to learn and constantly improve work by applying what is learned to daily activities;  
• Patient, able to manage stress and competing priorities. 
• Fluency in Arabic required,  
• fluency in English preferred

We offer 
 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a Six months including three month as probation period, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work As Soon As Possible and be willing and able to work in North (Jeresh-Irbid-Azraq)-Jordan.
