Who are we? 
 
Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iraq. 
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods, Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 600 national staff and 60 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations. 
 
About the job 
 
Under the supervision of the Head of Office Duhok and the technical guidance of the Senior Protection Coordinator, the PM is responsible for all aspects of the Protection programme planning, implementation, reporting, monitoring and evaluation of all related activities within the protection projects in the assigned area.  
The PM will coordinate with the Senior Protection Coordinator and the Protection Project Managers for a harmonized, integrated, and principled implementation of DRC’s Protection Programme in Iraq. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
• Ensure timely and technically sound planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of protection activities, including budgets;  
• Analyze and report on relevance, outcomes and impact of DRC protection related initiatives to provide lessons learnt and identify best practices to contribute to the improvement of general protection programming, tools, methodologies, and capacity building; 
• Identify protection needs through assessment, protection monitoring, analysis, and reporting in a timely manner and offer practical solutions in response;  
• Represent DRC in protection related working groups and other coordination meetings, ensuring proper and timely dissemination of information among relevant stakeholders in the assigned geographical area;  
• Prepare regular and timely updates for supervisors and relevant colleagues on key developments which can have an impact on the protection environment and on programming; 
• Provide supervision, coaching, on the job training for staff, including field/on-site visits in protection programming (which includes monitoring, community safe spaces, psychosocial support, case management, legal, capacity building and advocacy) 
• Develop, maintain and strengthen positive relationships with humanitarian organizations and authorities in the area of protection; 
• Contribute to the development of a country wide protection strategy for DRC Iraq that is in line with best practices and the country strategy for protection programming 
• Contribute to protection mainstreaming and improved understanding of general protection issues within DRC and ensure the adherence to international norms/principles, standards and guidelines, including training and technical support; 
• Contribute to the development of proposals to secure follow on or expansion funding for the protection program;  
• Ensure Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) approach to protection and in other sectors is consistently applied through community and rights base participatory methods;  
• Ensure the respect of DRC’s Code of Conduct, confidentiality and humanitarian principles; 
Any other duties as requested by the Head of Base and/or the SPC. 
 
 
About you 
 
To be successful in this role you must have: 
 
Essential qualifications and experience: 
• University degree, preferably in Social Work, Human Rights, International Law or related field 
• Minimum three years of international work experience and expertise in protection, including child protection  
• Thorough knowledge and experience of working with IDP guiding principles, IHL, HR Law, CPiE, MRM, CRC.  
• Expertise in best practice knowledge of protection programming, including child protection programming 
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective and working relations with local staff and other stakeholders 
• Excellent analytical, report writing and proposal development skills 
• Demonstrated commitment to accountability and quality assurance 
• Experience and willingness to work in a conflict-affected context 
• Ability to work well under pressure and in adverse conditions 
• Ability to work under own initiative and with little supervision 
• Experience in capacity building of national staff, and in convening and facilitating trainings and workshops.

We offer 
 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 12 months contract subject to extension based on performance and funding. You must be available to start work 15 January 2018  
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals. This position will be placed at A15 DRC’s salary scale
